Watches

I did watch a vid on YouTube, and with the correct tool, looked pretty easy tbh

But I’m pretty clumsy, so chances of doing something wrong is high ! 🤣

I’ll just take it to a watch shop in town, not going to bother with a pressure test though, I never wear it in water
I always thought a watch pressure test was similar to hitting a piece of glass with a hammer to see if it can withstand it. If it doesn't break it passes, but if it does break you are left with a load of broken glass. In the case of a watch if it fails the pressure test you end with a water damaged watch. I'm assuming there is more to it than that though.

Where do you guys go for new batteries?
My formula 1 tag series 3 needs one, I normally take it to a place that pressure tests as well. But as i go nowhere near water with it, I’m thinking of just replacing it myself
I did my Seamaster myself for a few quid last year, bought the correct battery and grease from Amazon. Always had it done at a local place for about £10-£15 but never really wear it or go in the water with it. Had it since ‘98 and change it every 5 years, also had a nice Tissot where the battery leaked and killed it after I left it flat for too long. Lesson learnt☹️

Hey guys. Anyone ever heard of a watch manufacturer called Elliot Brown? They are offering to produce a custom watch for a specialist team I work on. Based down in Poole I think.
Will be around £500 so they’re obviously not a big hitter but curious to here anyones opinions.

Tech stocks have fallen 25 per cent year to date. Bitcoin down by about a third.

I suspect that watches will be coming down soon as there has been one hell of a bull market in them past three years or so. Cost of living has to have some impact on luxury goods

Please don't hate me 😄. Who knows, I may get the real thing one day, this could just be a taster. Can't fault it for the money (£72 delivered) - Seiko mechaquartz movement, 100m water resistance, sapphire glass, solid link bracelet, it even came with an additional NATO strap.

It's also shown I can just about get away with a 42mm on my slim wrist.

I said I might get the real thing one day, just didn't think it would be less than 4 weeks later! *And yes I did say I'd never spend this much on a watch, but here we are.

For the cost it will definitely be worn as much as possible and won't be left hidden away in a cupboard never to see the light of day, I'm not looking at it as an investment. Don't get me wrong I won't be working under the car on it but I am prepared for it to get scuffed and dinged during its lifetime.

The MoonSwatch is definitely to blame for my purchase, I'd previously heard Speedmaster mentioned on here and other places a few times but I'd never paid much attention to it. After the MoonSwatch release I must have read or watched videos about the real thing every day since, Instagram images pumped into my brain on a daily basis.

This is the latest version - 3861 movement, hesalite crystal and new bracelet which is better suited to slimmer wrists.

It's either one of the stupidest or best things I've spent my money on, time will tell.

I've watched quite a few of Teddy Baldassarre's videos but only just spotted this one - Reacting to Watches on QVC. That 52mm Invicta is horrendous/hilarious 😀, and I own a couple of Invicta dive watches which aren't half bad for the money.

I do think that watch prices are softening. My mate with the ridiculously expensive patek has gone back to his insurer with a reduced valuation to get some of his insurance premium back

I had s as funny one today , I have a Rolex explorer , i went into a restaurant with my family sat down and the waiter came across , asked us our order then said I had a nice watch , then said those watches get stolen a lot you should be more careful…. I did feel a little weirded out by it , at the end of the meal he came across and asked about my watch again insisting he was looking for one … I did feel a little odd tbh I think he was just a fan if watches but you do hear some sad stories

That's unfortunately one of the downsides of owning an expensive watch, or any expensive item for that matter. I've avoided wearing my Speedmaster on nights out on the off chance someone takes a fancy to it and I end up getting jumped.

Came across this earlier, don’t think I’d wear an expensive watch in London. Fortunately I live in Newcastle 🙂

Looking for a nice Omega, Rolex, IWC, Bremont etc.

Giles at Oakleigh watches is a very good guy. Me and my father know him well and he gets some nice Full set unworn watches or daily wear ones.

Say you know Rupert and I am sure he will do a good deal.

Check out the for sale and sold. He is 100% and knows his watches. Around the World customer base.

Hi, hope you don’t mind me joining. I used to collect / sell / repair vintage Seiko digitals ( hence the name ). Became very involved and then mainly focused on repairs for people worldwide through several forums - even ebay. Never ventured high end as it posed no satisfaction but then found myself at an auction near hyde park around 8 years ago and picked up a 1967 big triangle sea master in fair condition . Since then it’s been fully serviced and even managed to source an original brand new rotating bezel.
Pretty much ever since it’s sat in the safe. And just like my Seikos they lived in a watch box and never worn. This is my experience with watches
I found the forums ok at times , but a lot of the same thing being repeated as people didn’t look back at historic posts etc. Some nice people on there and some not nice at all. I went on a world tour checking out old watch shops i randomly found and visiting members id chatted too for years all over the place. That was the best part.

Now I find myself moving over here to this realm. From my brief observation it’s what i was trying to find previously - Watch people don’t really meet up or want to show their collection, on exceptions yes and there is 1 convention in birmingham a couple times a year and here too in uxbridge but it’s mainly for a couple hard core collectors and traders

I forgot to add, i was circa 28 when i started and most members were much more than that.

I’ve looked to sell the omega but it’s a minefield and i honestly dread the time i do unless it’s face to face or even to trade it for a rolly in a shop prob in paris ( i’ve had a better experience over there and have a mate there too )

Selling digitals on ebay is fairly straightforward

Has anyone any experience of selling to watchfinder.co.uk?
Quick update:

2021 Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional, Hesalite glass, 3861 movement, metal bracelet - nearly new condition.

RRP £6000

Watchfinder offered £3375 - £3550
Chronohunter offered £2500 - £3500

Sold it it on eBay for £4600.

This was a little more than I bought it for. Taking into account eBay fees (-80% off FVF promotion) and insured delivery I broke even, or to be more precise I made £7.10 🙂.

eBay's Authenticity Guarantee seems a pretty secure way to both buy and sell a watch, it's a free service and the turnaround is very quick.

It didn't make sense having this much money tied up in a watch. I work from home full time so don't wear a watch for most of the day. Another reason for selling was it kind of stopped me wearing my other watches. I felt I had to wear this one because I'd spent so much on it. I enjoy <£200 watches as much as >£5000 watches.

Glad I experienced it for 6 months but no regrets selling it.

Just to bring this thread back to life what's peoples thoughts about prices of watches at the moment.

They went mental last year but have dropped massively.

Do people think this is the bottom of the market as I the watch I'm after is at a more realistic price still over RRP but only way to get hold of one.

Dave.

Most are still high from what I see, I've been on the list for a rolex oyster model for 18 months and still no show

Hey mate,
I put my name down in Nov for a Rolex Bluesy and Datejust 36mm bi-metal for the Mrs at an AD Gleneagles Hotel Mappin & Webb.
Prices are up again but I’m not paying grey market prices.

I've been on a list at AD for ages at WOS in York literally years for the Pepsi GMT Jubilee and Daytona with Meteorite dial to no avail. There's no other bits I want to buy to make me a customer then they likely offer you a watch. Its very frustrating but been offered the said Pepsi unworn 2021 for £16350 so tempted.

^^^^ Nice watch 👍 I’m hopeful waiting will be shorter this year.
It was like having an interview at AD.
Usually a good sign when they pass you a thick Rolex brochure.
I talked them through my buying history...which they don’t keep records over a certain period.
Mrs was wearing her Oyster and I was wearing a tag …lol
I’ve sold my Rolex watches as needed the cash for something…
Now I’m without a Rolex, I sure do miss having one.
If it was just for me, I would go Grey market but I wanted the Mrs to experience the whole AD buying experience at a good venue.
So, I’m in for the long haul.
