Just had a brows of eBay as my everlasting Hunt for a Baywatch continues and wow. Near enough every game on there (and there's a lot) is massively overpriced. Starship Troopers at like 5 grand. Austin Powers at like 7 grand etc. None of these can possibly be selling and they're all for sale from RetroArcadeSpecialist type nonsense accounts. Bad time for the hobby right now.

Only been in the hobby a little over a year. I do miss the landscape 12 months ago where if you had 1.5k - 3k in your pocket you had a constant availability of some great machines. Feels grossly collectable as of late.

That's a business so like HLD expect to pay more

I suspect hld will be stuck with most of those pins as most are just rubbish they will be running on cheap credit buying pins to flip but judging by the list of titles there won’t be much flipping.

That's an insanely good price.

Thanks Simon I'm aware of that. I'll start saving. Should be able to grab that Austin Powers in 2030
Snarky much, but my point is that businesses with warranty will always charge a premium like buying a car from a garage. Presume that this group is knowledgeable enough to fix minor issues that the layman isn't.

Having worked in the motor trade for years for a big national group- most used car warranties aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. These EBay pinball sellers don’t strike me as a premium retailer- doubt they’ll be willing to give you any assurances once money has changed hands. They’re certainly not knowledgeable about the going rate for some mediocre titles

HLD warranty ?1?
Ha - brilliant :) :) :)

I have at least 20 customers who came to me for repairs as they got ****ed off waiting for HLD to sort out issues. They are awful. Good job for me really.

HLD and other companies have nicely laid out websites, and write a good bit of fiction. Also now expanding on facebook.

Someone will look at how much a new one is - and accept a used one is a couple of grand less.... They will not know that a popeye (a well known theme) is worth less than an Cactus Canyon unless they do research. They may be life time fans of popeye, smile and hand over the money.

A majority of my customers do not even know this place exists, and to be honest - are not really interested.

Folks here are used to having a go themselves, and tinkering. As well as doing some amazing restoration and repairs but generally dont bat an eye lid if something fails on a pinball. I have been called out to repair a bulb that fell out in the past as (going by my customers) - some of them do not know how to take the glass off.

Forgive my ignorance- are Liberty Games pretty much the same as HLD? They’re selling games at astronomic prices- nobody uses them on the forum I guess unless @philpalmer can’t source a new pin they might have in their inventory?

Yes they are. I bought my first pin from them. Overpaid by a couple of £k - but I was happy in my ignorance at the time. Came with a 1 year warranty and they did sort out an on-site visit when it developed a small problem. The machine was in perfect condition when I got it, and the delivery and installation plus the warranty were all factors for me - knowing nothing about how machines worked at the time.

Many moons ago their prices were a deal, a total gamble on condition and usually hidden issues but worth it back then. They are pretty honest and always said games are "as seen" and will send videos and pictures but its up to you as they don't check over every machine and list all the issues. These days you'd be mad as their prices on older games are crazy....

This.

I occasionally get price lists from him. He wanted very strong money for a TAF that had mansion and chair wear, as well as mylar issues.
