INFO: Disco Pinball Aprons is the second restoration I've done using part number 439-500-S from Stern Electronics, INC. It's interesting and necessary because the colors used have reversed compared to the first set of aprons I restored in this series for Dracula pinball; what was once black is now red, and what was once red is now black.
Since I had the original scans of Disco Pinball Aprons, I've done a new comparison to show the accuracy of my work.
I wanted to be faithful to the design, as I always am, and improve the overall symmetry. Here are some of the things I've done:
- The pinball card frame now has perfect stereoscopic symmetry.
- The line thickness in the center, where we find the "Flipper Button" text, has a uniform thickness.
- The design has perfect symmetry on the left and right sides. This is something I always do in restorations that have very geometric elements.
- One of the new features this restoration incorporates, besides being the most accurate (see comparison), is the inclusion of the part number. Now, thanks to portable screen printing, it's a detail that can be added to the print, regardless of how small the number is.
The current method I order to print this kind of decoration is "Portable Silkscreen Printing", which involves the design printed with white-based ink suspended between two plastic sheets. It sticks just like vinyl with a transfer paper.
This new printing technology facilitates cheaper replacements than traditional silkscreen printing and avoids the color-matching process used in vinyl printing and the painting of the metal aprons.
This replacement is one-to-one with the original.

*Note: The white and gray checkered pattern symbolizes empty space where nothing exists in the print and which will show the background where the decoration is placed.
