New EU Tariffs push pinball prices up 25%

and they should increasing their threshold for vat on imports to £500 not £15

Well this won't make you happy: https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...s-goods-sold-to-customers-from-1-january-2021

"The new arrangements will also involve the abolition of Low Value Consignment Relief, which relieves import VAT on consignments of goods valued at £15 or less.
Online marketplaces (OMPs), where they are involved in facilitating the sale, will be responsible for collecting and accounting for the VAT."

(long story short - the threshold is changing to £0. Also, the seller is responsible for adding the VAT onto the sale price, and handling the VAT collection etc. Likely will push the price up further)

Just means people wont ship to the UK any more as it's too much like hard work...

Yep. Brexit red tape. That's what we voted for!

Abolishing some red tape might be a selling point for trade deals. Otherwise our trade negotiations might just have to be based on our amazing national industries, such as ... er ... jam?

No real implication for B2B sales though - and only on orders under £135, as a first run through.

Agree Alan.

No chance any taxes are being cut in the short term. Likely the opposite. I suspect the worst hit businesses in covid like travel might be protected but we’ve got a **** ton of debt to pay back. Fortunately it’s not an underlying spending problem so austerity won’t need to be as bad.

Also watch for 0% tax stuff like solar and electric cars to be reversed and pretty much anything where they had been 0 tax will get a hike.

Tariffs will go because they are too blunt an instrument - how quickly who knows.

The other huge opportunity is reverse the trade imbalance with the EU.

With almost every country in the world the U.K. has a huge trade surplus but with the EU it’s a deficit owing to stupidity in EU policy around food and energy, that will make a huge difference to the U.K. economy.

This is why the EU is playing games - the short term they really need a deal but they know that in the longer term it really hurts them as they sell more to us but they know that this will swing hugely the other way as we are released from the stupid trade shackles we have had for the last twenty years, instead they are trying to pin us down to that madness so that lazy french farmers can continue to be lazy...

Regards,
Neil.

The other week I purchased a few things direct from JJP for my DI and lollipop stickers for my WOZ std edition. However after replacing one drone, I should have checked the others more thouroughly and need another and will likely replace them all. Due to postage and import duties on the last delivery. Anyway I can get round the additional 25% tariff ?

So where's the distinction for an OMP. is this just amazon and ebay, etsy etc. Or is it going to be applied to any seller from outside the uk who sells something into the uk?

@Kenny Taylor - the tariff ends on 31st December 2020 - when the UK leaves the EU. As things stand it will go back to 0%
Do you really believe its going to be that simple...

I don't see it being smooth, especially as on 1st jan all hell is going to break lose on shipments imports/exports. I'll be surprised if we can receive or ship anything in january at all. I might hold my exports til feb so they have a chance of getting to the customers...

So - If i understand right... It's down to retailers to collect the Vat payable on any items shipped to the uk as of 1st Jan

If so...

How the hell would HMRC enforce that on Joe Bloggs in Arizona who sent something to me in the UK....???

I think they will reduce it also given the current climate.

I'm not sure how they can given the spending.

I wonder if the irony is lost on Boris? He was elected by beating an opposition of socialists but ending up in effect running a big state and embarking on a spending spree even Corbyn couldn't have dreamed of.

It has to be paid back.

In 2010 following the lost election, Labours Liam Byrne left a note for his successor at the treasury. It read, "There is no money, good luck".
God only knows what that note would say now.

I'm wondering that as well. Currently when I sell something on eBay to a country where a tax is applied (most US states, Australia, and several others) the buyer pays the tax, but there isn't a reference number or anything else to put on the parcel to show its been paid so no idea how that is checked.

Obviously less than good news, but the certainty from people here about what happens next is just baffling to me. I suspect cheaper pinball will be the least of our worries.

it just points to one thing: we need a uk pin maker. think we need to assemble the P-team [emoji106][emoji2]

Hah - we don't like making things here in the UK. Too expensive.

...I'm not going to mention the obvious prior attempt

Block the inbound packages - they do this to eBay all the time.
