JJP Toy Story 4

^^^Lol…..
IBM factory- assembly line where I used to live.
They hired any old Tom, Dick and Harry for the line.
Many Scallywags and thief’s, security wasn’t that great back then.
The amount of stuff they used to steal and openly sell.
Computer parts, mainly SIMMs + DIMMs at the time.
I know a chap that used to work on the line, then got promoted to be in the stores 😂
He had his own little memory selling empire.
Talking way over 6 figures….lol
Lovely house too.

I've had the game 24 hours and have played it quite a lot.

I've come to the conclusion that all of my gripes with the game are theme based rather than the actual shots & gameplay. I also have to consider that almost everything I've read has been negative so I wasn't expecting anything really.

I'm pleased to report that the playfield hasn't fallen apart and I actually enjoy playing it.

The theme should be Toy Story rather than TS4, Woody has a limited role and there is no Rex or Pizza Planet. However if you look at it as a fairground/carnival themed pin that's not dissimilar to a few Lawlor designs then it's fun.

Videos incoming towards the end of next week but I'm quite enjoying it and finding the loop challenges are making me come back for one more game.

There's no real pinball innovation going on and it could probably do with a mech where the screen is but this is not a bad game at all.

Being honest though mate, if you had to spend 12k of your hard earned to own one, would you ?
I’m sensing your saying it’s a fun game for what it is, but probably not to own, but play on location

Mate, I wouldn't and couldn't spend 12k on any game. Even if they did super special Deadpool that Ryan Reynolds had hand crafted himself I wouldn't spend 12k.

I'd always buy two pro's rather than spend big on 1 flash machine. The value at the moment is in Cactus Canyon.

However after two weeks of hearing how how incredibly crap Toy Story is I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. It's not a gimmick made for kids . . . . it's a proper pinball machine. It's not going to be taking the place of Batman, Deadpool or Monster Bash but all this talk about weak flippers, crap shots and poor design is nonsense.

Agree on everything you say but you hit the nail on the head with any pin being worth 12k and that’s after buying both GZle and GnR CE over my self imposed limit.
I’m out on NIB for the foreseeable for sure.

I think the reason the game is receiving so much hate - apart from it being Toy Story 4 as opposed to Toy Story - is almost entirely down to the value proposition.

If it had been priced similarly to a Stern Pro, I think people would love it. I’d have ordered one.

If it had been priced similarly to a Stern Premium, I think people would be luke warm. I’d have considered one.

Instead, it’s priced higher than a Stern LE, and there just isn’t anything on it to justify that price. If it had a packed playfield with a couple of innovative toys, sure. But as it is, with the major ‘toy’ being a cheap LCD display, it just feels like a **** take.

I’m really looking forward to playing it, but there‘s absolutely no chance that I’d pay £12.5k for one and I’m a huge Toy Story fan. It’s a real shame.

Totally agree I had a ce ordered we phil , I was quite prepared and expected for 15k for it and that was fine, for me the fact it was number 4 was the main thing but to see how a normally packed jjp was reduced to a pro killed it . I had to cancel with phil which I’m not happy about as I didn’t want to let him down but jjp dropped the ball on this one … they’ll be cancellations the world over on this because people are wising up …. If you want big bucks give us the licence we deserve and pack it out and make it feel special . If you can’t due to licensing restrictions just walk away from the licence at 12 to 15k we deserve better

the basic problem is it’s :
a) a jjp. second rate machines compared to stern
b) toy story. ****ty kids theme
c) high price.

end of. 😂😂😂

a) Debatable, love my POTC.
b) It really isn’t Toy Story. The 4 tacked onto the end makes a huge difference, and even then it looks like a carnival theme with TS4 tacked on.
c) Yeah. This is the problem.

Is…

… a consensus or a debatable issue in the UK?

I’ve now played WOZ, DI, The Hobbit and G&R on site, and was a bit… I dunno… disappointed. Really pretty pins, but - with the noticeable exception of DI - I didn’t find them that fun to shoot :(

Wasn’t sure if I was expecting a Stern, whether they just play differently on site, or whether they’re just less fun on average…

Quite comical…
Remember when I didn’t have a real pinball machine, I used to play the pinball apps on iPad.
Why on Earth would a leading manufacturer then stick a pin playing app in a real machine.
🤦‍♂️

The Disney parks all have a carnival themed shoot em
Up Toy Story ride Midway Mania, it certainly seems they should have named it this for the IP rather than movie title

I don’t really enjoy WOZ, can’t stand The Hobbit, and I’m not a big fan of G&R - but to be fair the theme kills it for me. Really like DI and would love to have one someday. POTC is in my top 5 games of all time and I’ve owned quite a few. For me, it’s proof that JJP can make a great machine.

If you fancy making the journey down to the South Coast at some point you’re welcome to visit and get some time in on it. We’re between Chichester and Portsmouth.

This is exactly what I thought when I first saw the game. It’s the Midway Mania machine.

I’m with you, I’ve played the same JJPs as you and the only one I enjoyed was DI and I haven’t played it enough to know if I’d actually want one.

Like any pin it’s debatable though just like mods or premium vs pro, different people like or value different things. Just because I don’t like a pin doesn’t mean I always think it’s rubbish, it’s just not for me!

Northamptonshire is a bit further away from me than London, but you’re also v welcome to drop in for some time on POTC if you ever end up in this part of the world. Best JJP by some margin from my POV.

Funny how we all enjoy different things isn't it ? Dialed in is the only JJP I don't like, it's probably the second worst pinball machine I've ever played.

Wow that’s heavy criticism! 😆 Interested, what takes bottom spot?

I'll leave a bit of mystery because I've got a podcast on it 😉

However what I will say is that I don't think it's fair to fully judge a machine until you've played it for 25+ games in a private unhurried environment and clearly I haven't done that with DI.

The game at the bottom of my all time pinball list has lived here and would take some shifting off bottom spot. Given that I'll never have a dialed in living here I guess I'll never have the chance to compare properly.

However a confusing theme, ugly art package, unintuitive modes, odd shots, crap sounds and the worst flippers on any modern machine I've played don't make me want to even play it.

Each to their own though and I'm fully aware that I love some pins that others wouldn't.

This is a bit of a strange complaint but the game looks more like a JJP game than a Toy Story game to me. I only noticed this when playing Wonka but I think it’s the photoshop art style and using the EXACT same style of insert on every game that just ruins the art package for me. GnR doesn’t have this and IMO has a brilliant art package (will admit I’m rather biased). If you put a Godzilla and a Guardians next to each other you wouldn’t know they were from the same manufacturer, but all JJPs look very very similar. I appreciate its nitpicking but at the prices NIBs run nowadays I think it’s a valid criticism.

It’s fascinating how much opinions differ. I liked the theme because it reminded me of a modern Whirlwind/Earthshaker (and Sim City), and because it helped me learn the rules. You shoot the electricity guy to steal his phone, shoot the phone to set off a disaster (mode) and, every now and then, there’s a weird paranormal effect in the tunnel.

It had good flow, I couldn’t hear the sounds because the volume was turned down, and the flippers weren’t worse than the average vintage machine on site.

That said, I haven‘t played it 25+ times either…

I'll just leave this here. The single best 4 player game of competitive pinball I have ever seen 😉

Hold on a second . . . .

You questioned the morality of having a pop up little girl doll as a bash toy but you're happy to shoot a bloke and steal his phone? 😉😂

I’m a socialist. I figured he was the overpaid flunky of an evil corporation who were designing dubious tech, and he deserved everything he got 😈
