Ebay Auctions

Your highest bid is your highest bid. Doesn't matter if its 10 seconds after its listed or 10 seconds before it ends, that's the beauty of an auction

That may be true in a traditional auction where there isn't a time limit imposed, but I think in eBays case the fact that an auction is only active for a defined amount of time skews things somewhat.

I'd be willing to bet money that I could get something cheaper by bidding close to the end than I would had I bid within a day or two of it appearing on eBay.

On that MM, if a nice restored one goes for around £5K - £6K then you wouldn't want to be into it for more that £5K say. A new pf is £750, cab decals £300 so as long as the main mechs and plastics are ok on that one you could budget another £450 on parts and still pay £3.5K for the base game. If your prepared to do the work then you could end up with a nice restored MM for around the current market value, but its a lot of work :) No bargain to be had though.

I would love to make this my next project, and I'm sitting on all the parts needed, but not at 3k and rising.

It's getting to the point where it's just not sensible cost wise to take that on as a project.....you could just buy one thats already been done :)

Smart timing by Phil. Suspect there will be the normal "looking for a MM" posts from Sunday onwards. I like MM but never managed to justify the disproportionate cost compared to other machines. I like the moat and how to lock the multi ball, but the actual exploding castle has always seemed a bit naff to me. Still wouldn't mind one though....;)

With the pound at a low against the euro, I recon most of the bids will be from abroad where MM prices have reached 8K in euros. Consequently helping push prices up even more here in the UK... :(

Prices generally are insane. Seems any dot-matrix game commands at least a grand no matter how shagged the PF and 'premium' titles at least double that.

I know it was ropey but does a sub £5k MM on the bay indicate prices are finally getting a touch more sensible?

Almost £5000 for a knackered MM is not sensible! This means a good one should fetch around 7k if you could find someone with that sort of money to blow.

A few more from our friends in Blackpool have surfaced. Not much in the way of detail is given on each and I suspect they'll be shilled to high heaven.

That last one is a Hurricane and I can honestly say i've lost count of how many times i've seen it advertised, sold and then relisted because the buyer didn't pay (or whatever).

I can't even be ****d to look at them all in detail, but there appears to be a bidding war going on on both the tftc and the br, by the same two bidders on both - an amazing coincidence a load of BS?!

waste of time looking at anything selling in Blackpool (sorry to those who live there and are unrelated to PP, but there it is).

if you win something at a fair price, it's because he forgot to shill it (Matt Vince was telling me he did this recently! the guy refused to let it go unless Matt collected it himself, so he did :))

the same machines get relisted again and again and again and again and again. he and his family and friends have loads of ebay accounts, and he just shills it and shills it til he gets to a number that most people would baulk at, waiting to hook an unsuspecting noob with more money than sense, who for some reason has set his heart on machine XYZ. no doubt soon he'll be relisting the WH2O, the SC, the Class of 1812, the RCT, and the TOTAN he keeps relisting. currently he's (as cath1988) selling a BR, Stern PB, TFTC and Hurricane, but there's no way anyone will actually wrestle them out of his grasp for less than 2500 each in my opinion. would love to be proved wrong, but when you set up ebay to email you with pinball machines, after a year you recognise the bad uns: devon, bestofthebunch, happyslapper, and anything in blackpool for starters

What did Matt win?
