EBay auctions 2016

Looks like it's going to go all the way according to the revised description.

10 day auction, Christmas coming, lowish start price, it's the perfect storm for eBay bidding frenzy silliness.

Yeah. If one with faults showing and fitted with skill posts can go for £3500 I wouldn't be hugely surprised if this went for £4K.

All TAF's regardless of condition will hit £2.5K on Ebay, it's one of the natural laws of the universe :D I reckon someone will pay just over £3K for this one just because that's the way the prices seem to be going. The amount of BIN requests the seller has had mean it's going to generate some interest.

If this goes way north of 3 I'm afraid mine might be next up on there.,,,,, there comes a time when it's hard to resist :-D

Hello, I'm the owner/seller of the TAF machine linked above.

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about it.

To address SteveC's question (above) no this isn't the same machine. This is the first time this table has been for sale (at least in 15yrs anyway)

Since Andy @ PinballMania came to visit a few weeks ago I've fitted a used Cherry DMD to replace the early-designed LED DMD that had missing pixels.

Peculiarly, the top bid on my auction is from the guy selling the higher priced one.

I'll add a link to the auction to show more hi-res photos of the playfield / house. ( Ebay limits sellers to 12 photos. and photobucket is down at the moment)

Curious as to what people think of this new p/f? I would be disappointed to see this much ghosting and hadn't realized how some of the AFM playfields vary.

Return to Battle insert is the worst.
Ghosting? I realised this is an extremely expensive auction so probably ok to expect nothing less than perfection, but, like, where is the problem?

If this is a bad playfield I clearly need to raise my standards!

I think it is more the fade, there is a lot of orange that should be red and yellow that should be orange, unless its meant to be like that? Comparing it to normal AFM playfields for example round the edge of the 'Return to Battle' insert should be red, not orange.

....although I like the orange, looks nice.

The differences between original and Mirco playfield is well documented, although mainly by playfield restoration companies with, in my humble opinion, a vested interest.

Here's my mint/new Mirco and my spare 21yr old original (the Mirco is under glass and different room lighting)

Finding a truely mint original playfield after 21yrs is no mean feat! Probably much more expensive than a new Mirco too! My new playfield has a thin polycarbonate layer over the top to prevent balls ever touching it, which also ensures the surface is flat.

I think his auction is over priced for a Pin with minor insert wear, and essentially it was bought like that - no work done themselves to my knowledge.

Note the seller is on pinside and appears to keep his games in a conservatory, that won't help with fading!

And one of mine again for luck:

Depends how much you could get it for in the first place. It's pretty cheap at the minute. The planking has been caused by the heat from the magnets for sure judging by the locations. The two lower ones look like they might be flat to the touch. The upper one looks worse, but not super terrible. Ask for some close-ups. It is a bit rough around the edges but seen a lot worse. Good news is it's not showing any faults on the credit screen.

Here's some closeups. https://1drv.ms/f/s!AjY-2Vbi2Gx76AilHGk2Gd-sI-a2

As you see, it could do with a clean

It does indeed need a good clean. Inserts look pretty worn. Could use a new ramp too (can get those cheap from Australia). And obviously the aforementioned planking.

I had discussed with Andy @pinballmania about the best course of action and he suggested leaving it as-is and letting the new owner decide what to do. He quoted £150 + fitting for a new bear ramp.

Good luck with sale, moosenonny. eBay will get you the best sale price but remember to factor in the £250 to eBay and more to PayPal if you use it.

If you need a replacement game, they're much cheaper to buy here from the forum, in public under the microscopic scrutiny of a bunch of pinheaded old hands. Welcome aboard

I got one from a company in Australia (via eBay) not long ago as a spare. Cost £75 plus postage, came to about £90 but took forever to arrive....I'd actually forgotten I'd ordered it by the time it arrived. I think the price you've been quoted is fair. Fitting is obviously not a 2 minute job though.

Look under RETURN at the edges - that is not acceptable for a new p/f. There is also some ghosting on the SUPER JETS and CONQUER MARS inserts.
No one expects perfection but at today's prices, I would want better than that, especially at that price. Ghosting doesn't bother me at all on an older game like CV but on a new p/f, right in front of the flippers - well, that does bother me;)

....correction, cost £61

Very nice:)

Be very wary of the recent new Sterns then! Lots of unhappy customers.
Yes, love Ghostbusters Premium but bit of a lottery if you get a good p/f or a ghosting one and then you apparently need 5 ghosting inserts to qualify for the 'program' to get a playfield replacement:eek:

They have now sorted the issue apparently so any playfields dated Nov forward should now be good. Rumours they have gone back to Churchill.

Looks like they didn't shift the right sling kicker dimple back 1-2mm as it appears to have done some damage.

The Mirco AFM's did have lots of right hand side dimples off by 1-2mm for some odd reason. I know mine did, but all were corrected.

plus the right flipper guide plastic is very faded & deteriorating entirely.

Best to stop looking now, it'll only wind me up :cuckoo:

The £150 ramps are the repro's from Starship Fantasy in the US that you can get from Pinball Heaven. They're thicker than the originals and just generally better quality.

Yeah, the one I got looks on par with the original and definitely better than expected. Not fitted it yet so no telling how it holds up to the upper right flipper. I probably wouldn't dare fit it without a metal protector on the Bear ramp.

It would cut out the middle bit where you don't like em and buy new ones that you do!

That's true. It would certainly save me crawling under the bugger and lifting up 125kg with my back like a tortoise while changing each leg for a shiny new one that makes no difference. There's probably an easier way of doing it than that I'm sure. But that's the way I like to do it.
