[Oct 13, 2012] NORTHERN LIGHTS 2012 (Manchester)

We do try our best... Thanks for the compliment

Are you in the NBA ?, theres only a few places left...

No to the NBA, wasn't paying attention and thought I had missed it. Where do I sign up and do I need a buddy?

In the NBA you are allocated a team, each team is in a league with four others (five in total), each team plays each other in a two minute game and are allocated three points for a win and in the event of a draw 1 point.

The top team in each league and two other top scoreing teams over all, go throughto the knockout stages.

Each game length is now increased to three minutes and is whittled down to 4 then 2 then its the 3rd and 4th place play offs before the final is played.

The ball keeps getting returned once its lost until the time is up, the game is split into four quarters and at half time theres a mini game with the basket in the back box..

The difference between playing NBA on its own and playing it live against someone else is like playing snooker alone or against another player.

It can get very intense especially if you have a large crowd watching which can influence a game as we encourage them to shout and cheer..

Its a great fun game, the refs are all dressed in striped shirts and the coin toss is with a giant US coin.

The winner gets a trophy and gold medal as well as a cash prize, second medal and cash third medal and cash, the trophy and medals are kindly donated by Andy from Pinballmania (www.pinballmania.co.uk)

We still have a few places left and you can enter at http://www.ukpinball.com/nba_comp2012.html,

Because of the manpower involved we can only run this on the Saturday

We are proud to announce the return of the Northern Lights Pinball loyalty raffle..

Every pinball that is at the show for the weekend will be allocated a number, and those numbers will be placed into a hat and drawn on Saturday night, with the corresponding pin owners given a great pinball prize..

Its just the NLP way of saying thanks to the pinball community for loaning us their pride and joy..

We will announce prizes in the next few days.

The support we are getting for the show continues to amaze us, We have just received a shipment of signed WOZ translites from our friend Jersey Jack (http://www.jerseyjackpinball.com/), they look stunning, we did contenplate stealing them and leaving the country but decided that the NLP just wouldnt be the same without us...

Watch this space for more info on how you could be the proud owner of these very rare items. The photo just doesnt do them justice.[attachment=1415:DSCF2637.JPG]

Would a very kind donation to your charity choice make any difference . . .

We will soon be auctioning a Signed WOZ translite off on eBay, we've had so much interest it's the best way to raise the most cash for the TCT

We can announce that two of the prizes in the pinball loyalty raffle will be a signed WOZ translite donated by Jersey Jack and a Transformers translite donated by Gary Stern.. Only pinball loaners have the chance to win one of these fantastic items.. The raffle for these prizes will be drawn near the end of the show saturday, if the owner of the winning machine is there they will be able to choose which one of these fantastic prizes they want..

We are also listing three sought after translites on Ebay from 11pm tonight, there will be one signed WOZ, one Xmen and an AC/DC all up for grabs to the highest bidder...

Every penny made from these sales will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust..

Thanks once again to our very good friends Gary Stern and Jersey Jack for donating these fantastic prizes.

It is hard to get any vendors to any show nowadays... There could possibly be one selling mainly pinball bits,

But this show is unlike any other pinball show in the UK, 99% of the visitors are not pinball people, we estimate that at least 60% of the people there will have never played a real pinball table, they dont know how to start the game, dont know what to do when a ball sticks, some dont even know how to plunge a ball, The rest have not played for a long time or have only played at last years show..

NLP see this as a chance to bring pinball back to the masses and introduce the game to new people and hopefully make it popular again.

We have quite a few new members in the Northern League on the back of last years show, one has gone from no pins to buying four all on the back of last years show and is actually loaning them to us..

We constantly hear of people telling us of a new pub somewhere that has one in.

We do have two very very good pinball dealers in the UK, PinballMania and Pinball Heaven.

Electrocoin have been good enough to loan us Stern's stunning latest release Xmen www.sternpinball.com/Games/x.aspx for the entire weekend of the NLP.

This machine will be available for the public to play on both days of the show.

Thanks guys..

This could possibly be the first public appearence of the machine in the U.K

David will be bringing along his HS2 Getaway with his new DMD Extender on.

This will be the first viewing of this prototype and is causing a lot of interest.

The DMD Extender is for Bally / Williams pinball machines - the final proto

type...

uses a Raspberry Pi with a bespoke interface board. The software installed on the RasPi intercepts the dot matrix signal and renders the animations on the attached HDMI screen. It's also possible to use a DVI computer monitor or a display with composite connection.

Next steps in producing the finished article include fine tuning of the interface board and how it attaches to the RasPi, and powering the project from the pinball power driver board. The video cable will have to exit the machine via the power lead opening.

There sure will, some very nice and unusual ones will be there for everyone to play, theres not many shows where you get to play the old em's, there will be pins from the many eras of pinball right up to Stern's latest release Xmen..:jaw:

Theres always a worry when organising a pinball show as to if you will get the pins you need to make it happen, well the pinball community have really got behind us and pledged far more pins than we can handle, we could have easily had 100+ and have even dropped some of our own tables to accomodate others.
So much so that we are now having to turn new pin pledges away.
Thanks to everyone who has pledged a pin (or ten) wether we used them or not.
