Complete (Yet another) Cosmic Gunfight

I fixed it now - but of course now the solenoid aint firing. So I guess i've killed the transistor. (Voltage looks to be there so im guessing the pulse isnt)
Karma for not having to replace the stuck bumper one really I guess.

On the plus side the new transistors appeared today so will bang one in this evening.. see how it works out

Ive not actually put the cover on when that's happened.. but its flipped a number of times and still I look to make sure ive put it back the right way :D

Transistor replaced. Solenoid is alive again. Now to play it again and see what teething troubles there are.

Having finished rebuilding the playfield thought I would have go at fixing the backglass.
I will quite likely end up buying a replacement. But then what would I do with the old one. So armed with the knowledge that im probably going to get a new one I have nothing to lose by trying to fix it.

At a glance it looks ok...

But on closer inspection - theres a plastic sticker on the front of the glass
back00b.png
Removed some of that - which shows were missing a chunk of image :(

Some of the plastic remains here - but ringed areas are pretty much missing.
So, off to photshop land we go.

Most of the art is back - just need to go "Rolling Stones" and paint it black :)
back3.png
Irritatingly ive lost a bit when removing some of the masking tape having painted the black. And I lost part of my T. However, Still looks way better than it did. I can touch these bits up I think.

Finally bit the bullet and decided to stip the cabinet and repaint it. (Practice on this before I set about the same with Centaur :) )

Here goes nothing !

<90 minutes and several removed screws and bolts later>

Just need to remove the trim from the sides then Ill strip the backbox.

Doesnt look too bad at a glance.. but

But on closer inspection

Playfield is looking good so it just seems wrong for the cab to look this way.

I've also got plans for a topper... One thing at a time though :)

Mind you - the backbox has deffo had a hard paper round !

Some filling and sanding

The back is pretty shabby - not too fused about it but might as will tidy it up a little

Backbox getting there - quick coat of primer on there - which of course showed a couple of spots I need to sort...

Yellow stencils on...

1666525963248.png
Bit of yellow paint. (Too much as it turns out. My right digit is a over keen as might right foot when driving :) )

Now got lacquer on. Mmmm shiny.. :)

Now, refitting the parts is the reversal of removal apparently. Ive polished the lockdown bar and tried to polish up the side trim (which didnt come up that shiny but im not sure its meant to)

Noticed that some of the wee plastic stand offs the displays are one were looking worse for wear. Im sure they are cheap and easy to get.. but this was easier still :)
1667564698623.png

Slowly starting to get it back together.
1667756740298.png
Having polished the lock bar and check it locks... I just realised its probably the wrong one for the machine - theres a cutout above the shooter.
Suspect I also need a new shooter rod the end of the existing one is a little depressed :(
Legs are not in great shape either - have cleaned one up and it looks OK, but cant decide to either paint (or powder coat) them red [which would match the red stripes around the cab.. or just buy some new ones.

The main reason I noticed the unpolished Medusa lockdown receiver :) (I should have taken a before pic)

Think thats the bottom all done (other than putting the playfield in obviously)

Now onto the backbox... Made a start

Anyone know whats meant to go behind these holes. Looking at other images there are screws there, but theres nothing for them to screw into. Anyone know whats meant to be there ?

It now once again has a brain !
Confused me trying to get the boards to fit having first installed the rails in the old spots they don't match up with the boards (pesky rotten dog boards)
OCD kicked in and I relocated the rails
Just need to mate it with the bottom, fit the playfield and play !

Not had a lot of time to get back to this but I got *something* done.
Refitted the legs (now with a cosmic stripe) and re-attached the backback.
Need to refit the displays and playfield and fire it up !

Playfield and displays back \o/

However, its not all good news. Couple of wires I need to repin on one of the molex connectors for the lamps.
1670491584732.png

Far more disturbing is that if you start it you get sound but as soon as you shoot the ball the sound either stops or is replaced by beep-beep. Sometimes it keeps beeping, sometimes 2-3 beeps and thats all she wrote.
Its got an aftermarket sound board in (made by these folks: http://pinballpcb.com/products/). I contacted them and asked if 2 beeps was an error code of some kind. They actually replied already which considering I didnt actually buy the board from them myself was pretty decent of them. Said to disconnect J3 and if the beeping persists the board is faulty, if not its an issue with the driver board (which is also aftermarket). They also said that without that connector I wont get sound.
(Which confused me a little - because then would I even get the beeps.. !?)
In any case without J3 theres just no sound.

Maybe its just bad more bad connectors/wiring to connectors. Will check them out.
I tried replacing this which is the power to the sound board (which was bugging me anyway but it made no difference)

Now looks like
1670491713142.png
(Yeah I know - Im going to put cable ties on those - even like that I prefer it to the mains cable and chocolate blocks that was there - just looked wrong.)

I am also feeling compelled to do something with this:
1670491850167.png
Though this has been soldered to the board.. The connector bugs me too. Have resisted the urge to replace it but that might change..
1670492539349.png

Having got the sound working again (swopped the board for the one from my Robotron - will look to repair the *original* board that came with the machine I think) I decided I would cleanup the coin door a little. Still need to knock up a new sticker for the door buttons (and get a new door button). Looking better than it did
