Today I worked on......

With another machine coming in soon I needed to get an outstanding job done, METr plastic protectors and Titan rubber swap. Took me a while over yesterday and today but worth it, I think they look amazing. Thanks @Colywobbles for the great work as usual, very lucky to have you doing these for us. I won't tell you how long I spent looking for one plastic just to realise the protector was a keyring 😂

Bought this coin door last week off eBay IMG_2426.webp
A quick clean and strip down , removed all excess over paint using 2k thinners followed by a light sand with a dust spray of etch primer and a coat of satin black .

Only took 10+ years to fit the correct door on Diner 🫣

Shooter lane kickout protector, side art, Col's Plastic Protectors™, instruction cards and glow in the dark Titan rubbers added this morning. It makes an already good looking game look even better, it really pops now.

And I always like to add a Funko Pop keyring to a new Pin.

The rubbers on the right hand side were an absolute pain to fit, and I'm not even attempting a couple at the back, you can't really see them anyway.

Flipper gap was a non-issue and would not put me off owning one at some point.

I posted the above in 2016 and stand by it. If the gap wasn't talked about so much I'm not sure I'd even notice it being larger than standard. Now, when I look at the gap on Ghostbusters, then walk over to Pulp Fiction, the gap on Pulp Fiction looks miniscule, so there's obviously quite a difference.

Highly unlikely I'll get the centre post mod, but will see if I feel the same after a lot more plays.

Shut The Front Door! There’s glow in the dark Titans! Where have these been all my life! Where did it get them?

Gorgar flippers we're feeling a bit tired, so rather than replace linkage, go full ham and replace crappy system 7 mechs entirely with some mechs from a system 11 (which means changing the coils too). Slaps good now and dead bounces like a dream. Just a bit of a faff working out where to bolt the mechs haha. Fun fun 😊

Cheers to @David_Vi for the tip. Solid upgrade to playability.

This was half way through the process. Clickety clickety goodness. I've left it at then pinball office if anyone wants a go. Needs some slightly longer coil stops to make it harder to trap, but it's fun 💪. David's flash next to it in the line has the same mod.

Well that’s Iron Maiden & Metallica gone….

…..into Pin Room #2!!
Suggested to me on Sunday night, laminate removed and skirting painted on Monday, carpet fitted and pins moved today 😂, lounge to dining room migration means room for 1 more (making it 6 🎉)

I am sure who ever installed these originally used superglue, but managed in the end to get them off. Thankfully the other side wasn’t as bad

AIQ pro and FF prem arrived during the week. FF had no mods at all so I've added some I like. Cabinet expression lights, Col's plastic protectors, upgraded speakers, flipper fans, titan rubbers, coil stops and sleeves replaced and some other things I can't remember now. Ready to play!

Sod it. Went with 3 in the end. One in the trough, one behind the targets, and one under the ramp. Adds a bit of atmosphere to the apron area. Without distracting from the main flippers I think 🤔

So last night we fixed @Mooseman Maidens upper left flipper.
Yet again the end stop getting loose due to their crap riveting. Easy to fix, but god how many of those have happened over the years. ****e parts

The Shadow! - now complete with the Xianek speaker panel and translite fitted.
This was a nice Shadow to begin with but now has Pinsound plus, Pinsound speakers and sub, disco sparkle powder coat, Mantis ramps, translite and speaker panel, Cols engraved ramp plastics, sanctum repair, target decals, battlefield phurba opto covers and more… I love it 🎉

So I picked up my first Stern Spike 2 the other day, playing great so bought a set of Pinsound speakers on a Black Friday deal. I normally put my own speakers in but thought F it let’s do it easier, turn it back on go into settings etc but not over the moon with the sound difference😏 Needs an amp, sub is awful and I know they can sound good from previous experience.

Anyway go to play a game and the left flipper is working intermittently, WTF I only replaced the speakers😂 In switch test switch is intermittent so something not connecting somewhere.
If I bang the flipper button it will work more often so dodgy connection, trace the flipper wire back up to the node board near flippers. Meter from buttons to board and ok, turn game on and push connector while flipping and working mostly and obviously the issue, pull connector off and surprised it was working before as 3 out of 5 crimp terminals knackered.

Replaced them and all good, crimps are so small what a pita that was!

After I worked out the fault I went online to check and it’s a common problem so could have saved some time but good to work things out yourself sometimes.

Lesson is if you have a Spike 2 don’t bang the playfield moving it back in😂

Known issue many of us have dealt with, i'm sure stern know about it, just like their sh1te coil stops, **** balls, but do they give 1 single solitary fùck? Nope.

Yeah it’s ****e really, you live and learn and move on. Lucky if you can fix this yourself otherwise that’s a few more quid down the drain getting someone to sort it which must have happened.

Hi Col, do you by any chance remember the name or Pantone for the blue coating you used on Spider-man some time ago?
I’m in the process of refurbing mine and have dropped off the metal work to my guy and just wanted to be sure!
Cheers
Ken
