Ok starting tomorrow taf workshop rescued this from a basement in a hotel in blackpool some months ago its the dirtiest taf i have seen for years so should be fun pics to follow

Right ok time to start got it on it's legs today and by hell its dirty so first thing let's see if it fires up after a good check over re fit a few connectors turned on and it boot up but no display and no solanoids quick check and replace off fuse 116 for the 12v and f112 and jobs a good one even the time was correct on it didn't check anything else I will do all that at the end of the workshop
Next thing is a good clean I don't normally do the cab first but it's just too filthy to leave till last first thing is to clean all the crap out of the bottom of the cab more spares in here than Marco after I clear the cab I needs a good vac out this brings it up really good a good clean with tfr and it's come up great a little tip I do on these hinged type is to lift the playfield forward to get better acces to the back of the cab
When cleaning out the cab noticed it had a counter wired in to the thing knocker pretty normal on operated games luckily enough there was enough wire left on it just to re crimp and put a new connector on I bought a full set of extraction tools from e bay they are metric but work fine
Next job clean the outside of cab a good wash in tfr and a good wax and that's enough on that for now I will fill the holes and touch up later
Right on to the playfield first just a quick clean with foam cleaner on the main areas
And then on to a total upper playfield strip
After about 3 good foam cleans the playfield has come up very well and not too badly worn right on to lower playfield strip
How the hell do these machines get so filthy?
I work in an environment where huge amounts of coal are imported so there's a monumental amount of coal dust in the air. The PC's at some locations at work are chock full of coal dust and I can understand given the environment; but I struggle to fathom how so much dirt gets into a Pinball machine.

The lower playfield was black so again a full douse in tfr I always put card and a towel in the bottom of the cab so the waste tfr that runs off doesn't swell the mdf in the bottom of the cab I start at the top and work down blasting the muck off do a good job on the inserts as this makes a massive difference to the lighting
Looks perfect when it's dried out now to put all the metal in the tumbler and that's enough for today

@chris b how are you applying the tfr, some sort of spray bottle?

this is the stuff i use i put it in a mr muscle kitchen cleaner spray bottle and apply from that use rubber gloves and best to do in a well ventalated area it does say dilute down but i only put a drop of water in

Another big cleaning session starts this morningSo that's this mornings cleaning session all done and nice and clean I will finish the ramp with a flame polish later before I re fit it 
Another common thing on taf is the weldments are always broken I will weld them up later in the week
Ok on with the playfield time for a good t cut and bring back that shine
I normally go over it first with t cut on kitchen roll lightly this gets all the muck off the foam cleaner can't lift
After a good hour t cutting with a normal cloth we have a good shine back
All waxed and a lovely shine what a difference a day makes so that's pretty much a day and a half solid cleaning Now time for a re assembly
