Stern : Star Wars Fall of the Empire

Massive shame for an already fragile pinball scene that this isn't coming out here. We're desperate for a good Star Wars game.
What makes you think this one will be good? 🤔

I've owned both the DE and Ritchie ones - the former is a snooze fest with dodgy artwork, and the latter is a fine game with a great toy on the prem/le.

Blind optimism (?)

I'm not a big fan of the multiplier spiel on the Ritchie one. Plus that play field is barren and has a face only a mother could love.

You have to have a certain level of culture and taste to enjoy Stern Star Wars, it’s not for the uncultured…..

In all seriousness, you really have to own one to enjoy it, as when I first played it in an arcade under Southend pier, I hated it. I don’t know many that have owned it and didn’t like it.

Looking forward to seeing the new one still, but I just hope it isn’t a brick fest like a lot of John Borg games (and I have owned and love a few).

Just watched it and my opinion from the 3 minute trailer is not great.

The figures and playfield looks cheap and they are reusing the Falcon from the old game, which is just a joke.

I was expecting a lot more to be fair and from what I have seen so far, I am glad I didn’t sell my LE to fund this.

Looking on the feature matrix the only mech missing on the pro is the rising ramp and the magnet ball save.

Also from the feature matrix it appears the pro is not compatible with expression lighting kit any more.

Other than the main Star Wars theme at the beginning, there seems to be a lot of non John Williams music in that gameplay video. There's a lot of great music from the original trilogy they could have used, so it would be a shame if they've cheaped out and used a lot of non-licensed music.

You haven’t watched the full presentation video. They say they have the John Williams score.

I did see that in the video, but how much of it though? The gameplay video suggests not much.

I'm a bit of a soundtrack nerd (especially the SW soundtrack), so the unfamiliar tracks stick out to me a bit.

Having said that, it's a moot point at the moment because we can't get it over here anyway (through official channels).

Watched the reveal and some gameplay for a bit - side note; I quite enjoy the spike 2 one.

I think the artwork looks o.k; LE backglass looks good.
The footage on the screen looks really crisp, although I thought it looked good on the last one too.
No doubt the game will be fun to play and I usually like Borg'd games - so look forward to playing it.
For such huge licence and being the first Spike 3 games, the PF art and the mechs look very average to me (during gameplay, when Jabba lights up, it looks crap imho - trying to think who Jabba reminds me of...:-)
I like the ramp which makes the ball jump, the Death star 2 ball lock and the swirly AT -AT wire ramp (although the At At collapsing seems very underwhelming)
I realise the licence must costs loads, but feels like they cheaped out a bit on the toys/mechs.
Early code obvs and the lighting doesn't seem to do much right now, but during the gameplay I saw there's were a couple of moments when parts of lighting dimmed and was nice and atmospheric, so hopefully the lighting/GI/expression lighting use will be excellent down the line.
Art blades initially look naff ; too much blue or something, but let's see.
Can art is pretty much as I predicted; ROTJ, ESB etc; doesn't look offensive, but unless can art is outstanding, it doesn't make much difference to me.
Edit; looking at the LE cab artwork; the left side with the snowspeeder looks very nice 👍🏻 not too sure about the blue armour though? Surely should be white?
If they put the effort it to code, it'll probably be great. I remember thinking Bond looked crap at first, but turned out to be a brilliant game.
