Hey,

Im Paul and Im based in Horsham.

Ive recently picked up a JP and am putting in the time to make it suitable for trade once I conquer it. It needs some love so it could take some time.

Im an arcade player from the early 90s, so my memorable tables are the usual such as IJ, TZ and TAF. However, I have a personal soft spot for LW4, Tommy and, for some reason, Maverick which I managed to master in the summer of 95.

And, yes, Im probably one of the hundreds of people who has enquired about rescuing the TAF from under Brighton Pier. Its one of four absolute stinkers in bars in the Brighton area!

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul - Welcome aboard soldier !

JP is a great game - one of the top DE tables.

I am actually in Brighton, and have a Tommy ...and a bunch of other machines, including a TAF that used to be in Aladdins arcade in town ( now sadly closed down
sad-1.png
, was 7 pins in there 4 or 5 years ago, and now sits buried beneath the 'Brighton Eye' wheel thingy )

Do you mean 4 stinker TAFs or 4 stinker machines in general ?

Cheers

Well I dont need to tell you where they are as you pretty much own the Pinformer Brighton Page! ;-)

I havent been to Riki Tiks for a while and last time I saw it, it was being refurbed (new ownership?) so I guess thats another location down. Thats quite a while ago now, though. I will be in the Laines a week on Saturday so could add the pub to the pub crawl and do and a quick reconnaisaince - you know, for research purposes.

And Ive never been to Medusas - is that another regular location I could visit.

There are, of course, absolutely zero tables in Horsham.

Good to see a Tommy in its rightful location! Had many a good time on that. Always baulked on owning it though, as I have it in mind that it might be a high maintenance table. Would that be right?

Not high maintenance at all, not compared to stuff like TZ. A few little things need tweaked (eg the spinners) to get it playing super smoothly, but that applies to all games. In fact I can't remember the last time it gave me any grief - and I have owned it about 10 years now.

Hi Folks, I am Jim and live in Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast ( UK). Before we moved to Norfolk and had our 2 boys we owned a few penny wall mounted machines which we sold .... and regretted! A casual wander round a local antique emporium led to me buying a Bally Black Jack (SS). In my ignorance I imagined the back box would be easily removed and it would come home in my MPV ....mistake. Its now due home in my friends van tomorrow and the fun will begin. It has lights but doesn't work. In general good original unmolested condition, I can see the rubbers are hardened and there is some electrical work to do. Machine seems to originate from Belgium as it works on 10BFc coins! Would love to hear from anyone in the East of the UK. Thanks, Jim

Welcome to the group Jim, So you bought the Black Jack, hope it proves a easy fix, there are more on here that know a lot more about that era of machine. Let us know the problems once you get to give it the once over. Fingers crossed it will be up and running with little effort.

Thanks D ...yes I did the deed. First concern is that getting it in the house isn't going to be as easy as I anticipated. I may end up dismantling the back box in the front garden to get it through the door! I was assuming the back box would be easier to remove! Lucky my neighbour has a Luton van. Photos to follow.

hey, welcome aboard ben, where is the rest of the j+ massive ??? i thought a few had joined up yesterday.

'ello.

checking in.

great forum you guys have here.

my 1st game of pinball would have been in 1981. the junior school that attended (not in uk) would open up on a weekend and there'd be all sorts of games setup for the kids in the neighbourhood to come play, eg. table tennis, skateboarding, chess, and 1 pinball machine! there would be a long queue for the pinball and at the end of the day, the top 3 scores would win a glass bottle of coke or some cream buns or something.

other pinball memories. the small local arcade i used to goto would have again a lonely pinball machine in the backroom! there would be about 10 videogames and that 1 pinball machine. since i spend so much time there, i would on occasion have a go on the pinball. what i remember about it is that when you launch the ball, it travels all the way down the table and then up a spiral before falling down the center of the spiral. the spring must be too strong or something because the ball would always hits the glass top before dropping down the hole!! if anyone can identify this game from this description i'd like to know!!

i guess it wasn't until a few years ago when i went to the pinball hall of fame did i pay more attention to pinball. now i play when i go to southend or the odd game in goodge street casino.

anyway... i do ramble a lot, so, hello. looking forward to some pinball chat!

Welcome vib_ribbon, thanks for sharing the memories, I can't tell you what that table was but someone might.

I felt it was getting harder to find a pinball machine to play out in the wild, now I realise there are so many in home collections and so many people are happy to share their hobby with others. If you attend some of the league meetings, you can play a good selections of games in a friendly and fun environment.

Where abouts do you live? I use to head to Southend to play a game or two.

Welcome to the forum vib, what year were you going to this small arcade? I don't know what pin your describing but knowing the year might help people identify it for you
smile-1.png

I suppose not strictly pinball, but I remember machines at Great Yarmouth in the 60's where traffic lights would change colour on the backbox when the bumpers were hit and they paid out fruit polos or rowntrees fruitgums. I'd love to know what they were called. I remember winning loads of tubes of sweets.

thanks for the warm welcome.

i went to that small arcade between 85-93. i would say the pinball machine was there about 88-90.

i am in romford. i go to southend perhaps a couple of times a year. the last time i went they had the new indy at Fantasia, and a row of 5 pinball incl Elvis at Mr B's.

i also went to Brighton not too long ago and they also have the new indy and adams family.

just watched a video of it on youtube... i can't be 100%, but that does look very familiar with the artwork and the coloured markings that lead up to the back of the play area.

that's incredible how anyone could get which pinball machine it is from the morsel of information i supplied.

VIB, Taxi also has a skill shot that involved a spiral although its more like a toilet bowl than a Helter skelter...

thanks for the reply.

after sleeping on it and watching a few more videos, i'm pretty sure that it's Pin Bot.
