Hi all.

Watching this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/222036148258

Spoken to seller missing back box keys which may explain why it is so dim up there. Tough to get into ?

Date can be set but it wasn't it the first set of pics.

Can't find the "what's it worth" thread...... But what you reckon ?
1800 seems to be ballpark for an ok STTNG. Would have to be very nice to warrant 2k+

The backbox lock can be easily removed with security driver. Prob burned up GI connector/blown fuse.

Thanks for the info. Would explain why so many over 2k machines sitting on there at the moment always seemed a bit pricey

Will make him an offer he can refuse :)

The backbox lock is usually held on by 2 bolts. Tend to be either hex bolt with a pin in the middle. Or a torx bolt (star) with a pin in the middle. People have put all manner of bolts in these games over the past 25 years though

You must look inside the head before buying a complex game like this. I think that some sellers do "play thick" when they know very well what is wrong with their game. If the keys truly are lost, there could be a corroded mpu and all manner of other horrors up there.

Careful pinball owners would obsess about being unable to get in a backbox, especially as fixing this is a cheap and easy job. Whether this guy is playing thick or simply is thick, my "smell a rat" alarm has gone off, so just take care

Why not get him to talk you through what ever the error messages are on startup

I spoke to the seller of a wcs94 on the phone last year. "Nothing wrong with it " was his confident claim, though he was one of these proud "i have never removed the glass" types. I got him to turn it on when on the phone to me. I heard the five beeps of death. Conversation politely over

Williams moved the back-box lock from the side panel to a simple plate at top centre of the backglass/translite during the late System 11 era; Whirlwind definitely had it, though I can't recall right now about Police Force.

The lock & plate are indeed quite easy to remove, unless either of the fasteners has been over-tightened, causing the inaccessible T-nut it's threaded into to spin instead of holding in the wood. On a couple of games, including Whirlwind, I was unable to remove the plate/lock to install works' standard back-box lock.

whats annoying is when I got the 10 x james bond NOS glasses in last year one set of boxes were labelled pink panther and I was very disappointed to say the least as a couple of them could have sorted both of us out.

Went and viewed the White Water which is on eBay as it was so local to me this morning. It has the normal cabinet wear, nothing to bad, translite good, topper faded, cover will need replacing. Fault on start up, did check was only battery's need replacing, abit of acid around them but no damage to boards. All played ok. Playfield has wear on left side which you can't see in the photos. Small wear in a few other places. Mountain broken. Needs a very good clean up. He will take £2,000 cash and his number is on the listing. Hope that helps anyone bidding or wanting it that can't get to see it. Spend a few hundred on it an it will be a good play machine, but not a minter.

seems fair. please no groaning but it does seem to be a game that has "dried" up in terms of availability

Just an FYI, if the batteries are showing signs of corrosion, then the pcb will likely do so in the future. There is a delayed reaction between the battery leaking and it starting to eat the pcb. If you every buy a board that has had leaking batteries, you must neutralise the board or problems will appear later.

Translate:

"I bid it up with my second account, but I went to far, so ended up relisting it the second it had sold (to myself) and just added the crappy excuse"

When this crap happens, the bids will go down and down each this he relists it

But in that case would the seller/buyer end up paying the ebay fees for having sold an item .... to himself???

Yeah but then he can just open a dispute against himself, buyer claims, seller agrees to cancel and he gets the fees back.

They don't even had to open a dispute, if both parties mutually agree not to go through with the purchase it gets cancelled and the fees are refunded.

And the winner for best/worst pinball ad photos goes to......

Look at this on eBay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/152000062468

Star trek the next generation pinball machine -refurbished

No mention if the game actually works or not and the best bit is the asking price £4K
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Good luck with that one buddy, especially when there have been other STTNG's sitting on eBay for months for around the £2.5k mark

99c offer in and declined very quickly, I can sense a flea bay advert being altered
