And not in a Catholic priest kinda way

Firstly thanks you all for helping me get through these few days in hospital having number 2 child, this forum has been a great help passing the hours whilst mum and baby sleep, but my other baby, Tommy, has me thwarted at the final step. I've restored this from a pretty beaten up state and all is ok, just the cab to fix up, from various logs here I know to use Halfords PU varnish to finish, and the cab has cleaned up well with magic sponges but the yellow needs touching up in a few spots, the Tommy guru @Sgt GrizZ has told me about a place in the states that sell touch up pin paints but postage/ time etc makes me want to look closer to home first.
Has someone done a tommy here and do you know a yellow that matches? I've mixes different balances of Lemon Yellow and Yellow Ochre, and come close but it's not right and it's also pi** thin and the scuffs show through. Any advice please?

Dodgiest post title ever :)

Personally I'd go with the US stuff despite cost and time. You'll know then you have good match. A patch up that isnt *exactly* right is sometimes worse than no patch up.

Question about yr Tommy. Is it a European one ? And if so which country. I only ask with regard to the side rails. Most Euro ones I have seen have the extended rails with protection around the flipper button area. US ones tend not to.

Oh, and those aren't original legs. Black DE ones on Tommy.

Looks in good shape though

I think you're right sarge, will order some tomorrow, they also do some other ones I need like baywatch and RS so will suck up the cost. It came to me from Europe but I'll have a closer inspection and see if I can trace its history further from stickers inside the cab and on the back.

New black legs in a box just out of shot ready to go on once cab is good as new, the icing on the cake if you will. :)

It's a bit crazy ordering acrylic paint from the US as there are loads of places here on the UK that can sort you out with decent paint. Have you tried getting hold of a professional color chip flip book? You can then have a look to see if any RAL or BS colours match, and then get some made up

IMO ....sod that, all the hassle ....but for a few quid more someone already has it in the US ...order, job done.

I was hoping someone here has done exactly that as i dont have a clue where to start....well I do now, with a chip flip book but tbh id probably get that wrong as I've thought I'd matched it several times now just for it to dry differently. So far the American route does seem the most painless way forward but thanks for the suggestion @Davey D

@PeteB recommended a brilliant acrylic colour match for HOOK but its coverage of scuffs, marks etc is poor as you comment above even with a high quality pigment paint. Aren't you going to to have the same problem even with a good colour match? It needs some form of primer or undercoat. Also I'm surprised the US guys will ship paint internationally.

$24 shipping for up to 6 bottles, 1 ounce size. Actually the price isn't too bad per bottle $5 each so I've gone for it and got some touch ups for a couple of other pins I have so will let you know what the coverage is like but im anticipating several coats, hopefully blended in by the final varnish...

If you use a brush use fine art brushes I painted my whole cabinet around the intricate art work using this method, I'm not sure I'm going to bother to clear coat over it

Even buying the recommended color from the states may not be a match either, due to possible colour fade of the original cabinet. Just saying

I got the brushes from Hobby craft - see the post above yours in my shop log for photos;

Your cab paint looks decent so stick to touch ups. Mine had a lot of damage to cover and was quite dull I was very pleased with the end result as seen at NLP I should post final photos in my log.
Thanks mate I'll get shopping, yeah need to see finished shot, that was a great log btw!

This is all I can find Sarge...does the USA just mean it was made there or is that it's destination country?

I'm Interested in the country of origin and how it effects the side cabinet decals on DE Tommy.
Noted #ronsplooters Tommy has cabinet decals with "Offenbach-Main"
My Brit one has "Broadway" any others out there with a geographical variance?

Germany was the only country with alternative cab artwork.... Though I'm pretty sure it's just a decal / sticker.

The musical premiered in Germany in Offenbach in 1995. Tommy pinball was in production in 1994. So I think the decals/stickers were provided to German distributors to customise the cabs.

The flyer is also available in a German language variant.

Thanks for the info on the German flyer and the distributors decal/sticker.... I will be looking more closely now at every Tommy cabinet I come across. :)
This is the first I have seen with the "Offenbach" script. ... The sales team deserved a bonus for this Eco-mod.

Anyone had any luck using the Valspar paint centres in B&Q ? They have a big wall of little colour match cards ...you can take away a couple of dozen and see if you get a match. They also have a computer attachment that can 'read' the colour of an object with a scanner. Clearly wheeling the cab in to B&Q to be scanned is not an option but I took my apron in and got them to scan the unfaded underside. Not 100% successful and in the end went with the colour match cards. They do a 'sample pot' which is about 1/4 pint for a couple of quid.
