Complete Attack From Mars (in Yorkshire...)

Been enjoying the weather whilst knocking this crude playfield rotisserie together. Seems to serve it's purpose, but expecting a few minor revisions along the way.

Collecting refurb'd cab from replicas tomorrow, looking forward to this all coming together...

In the meantime I bought an Addams Family which has proven to be a worthy distraction. More the cleaning and fixing, only played it twice at home before getting under the bonnet.

Metal parts back from powder coaters too. Black gloss.

Borrowing Lee's idea from his TAF refurb thread; I've added felt to the inside of each backbox bracket so they don't scratch the rails each time the backbox is lowered/raised.

Cabinet is now back from Replicas - it looks awesome!

I'll do some better pics when i have easier access to it (when sub-project TAF is rebuilt).

It was also my 1st Pinball meet 'round someone's house. Have to say everyone was very friendly and thanks again to Replicas for buddying up with me for the tournament play.

That looks fantastic. You certainly have a good line up, all different machines in my opinion. They are all going to look very tasty.

Cheers - limited room so I wanted to ensure the games I can house will keep me, the Mrs and friends entertained for a good while. She got 890mil on TZ last night! Nearly burnt the dinner.

Minor progress yesterday - but lots of reorganising my crap going on in the background! I need a bigger house or a garage.

Don't forget to get the pop bumpers lighting stappled in before you do much more , otherwise you won't be able to get the stapler in to do it.

noted, thanks.

Before going any further i'll need:

  • Pop Bumper bracket Mounting screws / fin type - 10 (9+spare)
  • Pop bumper body screws - 7 (6+spare)
  • A working staple gun...

and i just received my "last" order from Andy too... if i had a quid for every time i've said that...

I could rescue the old pop bumper screws but it would generate a load more crap (coils, cables, brackets) to label & store - i have enough of that already so can't be ****d right now.

A small window of opportunity opened up when it started raining on Monday afternoon.

My hands, already tired from days of gardening and painting fences, attempted to build their first pop/jet bumpers.

The results were pleasantly encouraging!

@replicas - Thanks again; i can fully appreciate your advice about the staple gun workspace now. Even with hardly anything nearby it's still a pig to get the staplegun in at the right angle.

I added some heatshrink (not heat shrunk) to insulate the bulb holder's metal legs and tried to mimic the locations of the solder points from the old playfield as much as possible.

image.jpg Bit of rain today = minor progress putting some bits inside the newly decal'd backbox.

Metal backplate and loom loops in place (checking my teardown photos on iPad).

Circuits, grill and knocker back in place. Using a pinled processor board as my original had minor acid damage and needs some specialist attention from another helpful forum member.

Also took this opportunity to ensure all the fuses are correct... Had the game of my life on TZ last weekend with a good friend as witness. Well over 1billion (that's good for me), start LITZ, roughly 40seconds in, fuse F112 blows (secondary solenoid) meaning everything stops moving... LITZ ends, game tries to reload gumball machine but can't, game sits there helpless...

I cry. Friend - who's never seen LITZ, runs off to the women to report on this tragedy - gutted for both of us.

Safety first, so I power off & open the backbox, find a blown 3A where a 7A should be.

Moral - CHECK YOUR FUSES!

It's alive! ...And already starting to standup by itself. Feels like a key milestone has been passed here. Still got to man-up and transfer the main playfield wiring loom across, but not tonight...

More attempts to avoid moving the wiring loom over from the old to the new playfield...

So spent some time ensuring nearly everything screwed down underneath is labelled ready for a simpler move (not forgetting this is my 1st pf swap), ball gates/diverters got mounted and also fitted the perspex backboard, which required the playfield to be removed from the rotisserie and some gentle encouragement of predrilled holes...

Nice I think I've seen it on pinside (I rem seeing one that lit up)
That's it, there's a space scene one too, but I preferred the city scape - seeing as the Martians keep attacking various cities as part of the game; it seemed to make more sense.

I'd been meaning to clean up the coil sleeves, but decided to print new ones instead.

I used the resources available here: http://www.pinballrebel.com/pinball/cards/coil_wrappers.htm
(noting the small print, and making the necessary URL adjustments)
They deserve a small donation for this work, it's really good!

Very impressed with the results. Most are black ink printed via a laser printer onto the appropriate coloured paper, a couple are colour printed onto white paper because that paper colour wasn't easily available. Print 'actual size' to ensure the dimensions remain correct.

Used 80GSM paper quality in all cases, which may be slightly thicker than the original, but nothing to worry about in my book.

I'll cut them up with a guillotine or craft knife later...

I've also printed and laminated a new A3 tech chart for the inside of the cabinet from here:

While the lamination machine was warm i also did a few more for my other games and some that i'd like to own one day (see list).

Got 'round to applying some of these 'home made' coil wrappers earlier this week - they make a small but welcome difference.

I also 'home made' some sausage rolls having had weird cravings for them all week - went down well with some HP Fiery Chilli Ketchup. Think i might be pregnant.
