Complete World Cup Shocker

Amazing thread. I always feel I'm interrupting by commenting, so I've held off, until now.

Fabulous work, real attention to detail. Mammoth undertaking and superbly pulled off.

It looks so good and almost across the line. Really looking forward to the final photos.

Thanks for taking the time to share.

Thanks Neil, appreciate the kind words.

I suspect I should be finished by Wednesday.

I'll work on a video to demonstrate all of it.

Cheers,

Scott

Neil got a new ramp and sent it to me via priority courier.

Only to find the replacement sent wasn't the right ramp... It wasn't even for the right game!

I got to work fitting the other parts despite the setback.

Part of the shipment included mirror blades.
The issue fitting them was the playfield. The clear coat dripped down the sides so I had to sand the sides down.

The margin is practically zero here but they fit... Just.

Installed Goalie net decals and temp fit the broken initial ramp. I used a ton of epoxy resin to hold it together so I could test fit everything.

Installed a ColorDMD LED variant.

Next up I gave the internal of the cab a small clean to get rid of any wood shavings from sanding the playfield sides

Finally I tested the coils and lights and resolved any lights which weren't lighting or were intermittent.

Just waiting on the skill shot mech to come back and the hopefully correct ramp!

Dude, those mirror blades are going to scratch up any time you need to lift the playfield. Have you considered these?

I'm hoping they won't, at present it lifts without pulling the film but Neil is aware it could be an issue. It's always a risk when using a repro playfield and an old cab. Sometimes you get lucky and the gap is fine other times you don't.

Ultimately we'll test before it goes to the club.

Skillshot mech, wireform and Shooter Rod arrived back from Ant. Really great job from his platers the skillshot mech was rusted badly. It's come out great.

Wireform looks like it's had a new lease on life.

Ramp arrived today (the correct one this time!)

Usual affair of applying decals, transporting across wire harness and switches and flash caps.

A month to the day the game is finished!

Only some minor tweaks left which I'll sort tomorrow.

Hit some issues before I could sign this one off as done.

The ball gate assembly turned out to have a dead coil. Someone had decided to put a 10 amp fuse instead of the spec'd 3 amp fuse...
Fun times happened with the fliptronics board as a result 🙄

Thankfully Pinball Heaven stocked the replacement gate assembly and it arrived today.

I set about replacing the assembly and voila one working ball gate.

Another issue I had was with the diverter. It kept sticking.

Turns out the spring has been hacked and was lodging the plunger half the time.

I cut the badly bent spring and reformed it. It seems to have resolved the issue.

Last few elements were just alignment and adjustments.

The ramps being thicker needed additional washers to allow for better clearance.

Last issue was with balls getting stuck in the trough, turned out the new pinballs from pinsound being chrome balls magnetised very quickly. I switched them out for Polaris balls. Problem solved.

Cut it down to the wire but everythings working.
