Drama and I missed itThere is lively discussion, and then there are trolls. We are all smart enough to know the difference.
The moderators on this forum are unpaid volunteers. The do not want to be nannies of grown adults

There's no single answer to this (so it's not even worth trying imo), it's entirely dependent on whether answered by someone from the "Yes - more lively banter is what this place needs" or the "No - he's an insufferable ****" camps.
There is an ignore option on user's accounts. I've never used it so not 100% sure what it does.
Totally removes the person from your feed, you cannot even see if they have posted
You have to go into your own preferences to unignore them
I tried the ignore function, but because said deleted member interjected himself into every thread regularly with people replying to his comments it made it hard to follow anything only seeing one side of every conversation so I had to unignore in the end.

If you don't want to see someone posts you select it against that person account, there posts are then hidden from you, has a cover blurd place when the person post

That's the way I feel, it's Neil the Scottish chap they are asking about, he never upset me, and I quite enjoyed some of his posts (he is quite knowledgeable) but without knowing exactly why he got banned don't feel like I can vote either way.
He certainly did rub some people up the wrong way though, didn't someone key his car at an event? Which it completely unacceptable no matter what he did IMO.

Neil pushed the rules, and in my opinion overstepped them on multiple occasions. His posts were very knowledgable and at times entertaining, however he was warned on numerous occasions. Every time he would backed off, however following a short period went back to doing this again. Was warned again. and so the loop continued.
This is MY view - You may get a different one from Neil.
We introduced a "warning" system (can be seen here : https://www.pinballinfo.com/community/threads/forum-warning-system-now-in-place.52250/) which kind of makes things clear as to what happens and they type of infractions.
I dont look at points that are currently in place, just the infraction in question. Should that take someone over a limit then so be it... I dont do "but if x happens then they will end up with no access for 2 weeks"...
I'm also non-draconian about things... Maybe i should be.
We now as a mod team discuss most major infractions (not all - some are clear cut and some are just handbags)...
I do believe that we are quite relaxed here, however thats my opinion.

I actually think one things that has made pinballinfo so successful over the years, before many of the people on here now even joined, is the willingness and skill of Paul and the mods to act more as facilitators of what the forum members want as a community, than as rule enforcers. There have been countless contentious topics over the years, especially in the first few years after the forum was created, where we went backwards and forwards as a community of users multiple times developing the norms of this place - what is and is not acceptable and how the majority want the place to work.
Taking a points based approach with hard and fast thresholds and punishments is actually a relatively new approach - and what this post is highlighting is that perhaps the rule in it's current black-and-white form needs revisiting and tweaking to align better with what the community here thinks would be right.
Neil is Marmite, and at times pushed the limit.
IMHO - the site has got a lot quieter and a lot of people are not posting in fear offending others. It’s a minefield.

Posting as a user, not an admin. If one person alone is the reason a site is less fun, then what does that say for the rest of us?
The site is nearly 15 years old, fun people have come and gone, naturally, due to life events, or as the event of a fall out from being annoyed by others actions.
As an admin and sharing only what I believe to be factural. Neil created a second account to bypass a 6 month ban, after previously serving a shorter ban. The admin team is unpaid, have full time jobs and lives, and the rules are not overly complex on purpose as we are all meant to be adults who can manage ourselves. For us, rules exist because there is experience of what happens if they don't. Scammer, spammers and trolls do appear and we clean them up so that we can have a forum that supports the pinball community.
We are more than wlling to review the rules, as mentioned, we have a meeting to discuss the most serious implementations of a ban. But there are very few cases where an active member of the forum has been permanently banned, and none for purely offending people.

100% let's get Neil back on here. He invests such an incredible amount of his own time and resources for others and the good of pinball in the UK.
The successful rebirth of PBR with 70+ games is a tremendous achievement - he makes so many of his own latest games available for us all to play and enjoy. Neil has been a driving force in upgrading our UK tournament scene by leaps and bounds to the point where we have top international players coming to compete with us; allowing us to level the playing field and compare more equitably in the World Rankings for those who care about such things. He also helps run smaller events which are accessible and fun for everyone.
He's also currently trying to arrange the European Pinball Championship in the UK this year, which would be an amazing feat. This would be such a brilliant opportunity for our community to take part in a major pinball event if they wanted to.
Given all this, and the need to share important info about all the events going on -it seems strange to have this great forum without him present.

I think this is the right approach. Rather than making it about 1 person I think it's a larger question of does anything non-illegal deserve a lifetime ban from the forum? I'm not sure it does and I say this knowing some people I like will be upset or turned off the forum if certain people are here.
