UKPINFEST 2025 MACHINE DONATION THREAD

Mate, air bnb , other hotel - must be options.
There are options, but my pre-booked a year in advance £95 hotel now becomes £250+ and/or far away. A real d1ck move by Travel Lodge. I'm sure they can afford to honour pre-existing bookings to keep customers happy instead of trying to get another £150 out of me

Had you paid up front? Surely they must have to honour that price..?? Or are we talking another "concert announcement" situation here where they cancelled a bunch of rooms and then re-advertised at 4x the price?

EDIT - there again, if the hotel has been bought then your contract would have been with whoever the owner was at the time

Get your money back and grab an air BnB - that nose looks far better on your face buddy :-)

Agree, its not like if the company went out of business you'd still be able to rock up and stay in the room.

Good luck Luke, I hope you sort something out and bunk on someone’s couch or carpet instead.

Best of luck Phil, I’m sure it’ll be a terrific show as always, you are a much respected and liked member of the community.

And if anyone has anything negative to say about the show or about Phil - you know who you are - then please keep it to yourself

I am really not liking the addition of pulp fiction in the classics lineup - its a MODERN GAME with modern gameplay. It has absolutely no place in a classics lineup

Don't get me wrong, its one of my fave games, and I could maybe qualify on it. But c'mon - so many classics - its not like you are short of choice........

I will be honest (and no, im not having a go at anyone!!!) I 100% agree. Yes it has the displays off a classic, but 2 major multiball's, various modes and a wizard mode screams modern to me. Its also a very young machine. I think however, it would be an amazing addition to the main. If it helped, Iv several good unusual and reliable classics (not all on list but they could be pledged) that Im more than happy to loan to fill its gap if it were to be moved. Will be there Thursday-Monday.
Cheers, Andy

Just giving my opinion, along with an offer to help. Not into intentionally creating any drama's.
Ps, I bloomin love the game! It is a great fair game suitable for comp's and it is super fun to play.

No worries all good. I'll drop all the t-shirt designs etc in an email.

Shaun asked for Pulp almost a year ago and he's very welcome to use it however he wants and he can take Dolly too.

Wayne is very welcome to Jaws in the main comp and I might well bring a surprise pin too if things go to plan.

But @Arv has some excellent plans for the classics and I'm sure everyone will enjoy the tournament and prizes.

It's just a bit of fun. I know the prizes are hefty and points are important but . . . Pinfest is a brilliant social event and no competition will have a lineup that everyone will agree on.

To be honest, as long as we're not putting Super Hoop 🏀 or Space Jam in the NBA comp we'll probably be alright. 😉

TNA
Beatles
Bond 60th

Guess these are all classics now right, all recent street level games?

True. Its a 2024 classic and as I say, I love the game, so will be pumping tickets on this for sure. Just be warned that as I play this game I cant help but get excitable, its an awsome movie integration and fantastic sound track, I am highly likely to happily sing & dance while playing for a prize what is the equivalent value of about 6 months worth of pay for delivering my parcels! Sometimes I just cant help myself!
Ps if you do want t.shirt design's Im sure I could come up with some Wicked idea's 😏
On a serious note, I am happy to do a session of score keeping or anything I can do to help in each comp. 👍

Its all a matter of opinion I would guess since I dont think there is any official IFPA guidelines that makes a game eligible. My argument would be anything 25 years+ but others may disagree

Just rename the categories as the word "Classic" has multiple meanings to different people.

I personally don't understand how a game that is still in production can be regarded as a "Classic" in the spirit of the term as it was originally defined.

I can't help myself...
For me it's about a combination of play style, skills required, playfield layout, rules and flipper feel.

25 years means a lot of Wpc89 are legible, they may be classics with regards to pinball history but I don't think they're classics when it comes to competition play, and that's what is important.

EPC had a load of sys11s in their classics which I personally don't agree with. Nearly all of the finals involved players picking the sys11s over the 'true' classics, because why wouldn't you? They're more predictable and often have safe feeds, (ramps feeding inlanes).
A sys11 or early wpc doesn't differ much to playing a modern stern, but the difference in those to games a few years prior is more dramatic. Pinball hasn't changed with regards to gameplay since the late 80s except deeper rules.

There's a different skillset in playing a classic imo. But! People have different opinions and can do what they like, see EPC and TPF 😄

while playing for a prize what is the equivalent value of about 6 months worth of pay for delivering my parcels!

And this is why it's not just a bit of fun, money makes it very serious 😀 (sorry Gonz!)

These sort of discussions are what made this forum greet. I don't think we get much of this anymore, for whatever reason.

I think @PUP's comment that the prize money is potentially 6 months' worth of wages, is why this isn't just 'a bit of fun' - when there are such high prize funds on the line, people will take it a bit more seriously and want the event to be the best it can be. Events where it's just points and trophies it's definitely more about having fun - but these are higher stakes. :)

While people might not love every game in a comp bank, people don't tend to complain about it (well, not serious grumbles anyway). But if you advertise a classics comp, you should expect some comment when a brand new game is added!

Having Pulp Fiction in the line up for a classics comp seems like an odd choice to me as well, for what it's worth. I remember when it was announced in the Pinfest game donation thread there was a bit of confusion there too.

No need to apologise David but it's got far too serious if I'm honest. I completely agree about the forum btw.

Two weeks ago I got sent a WhatsApp screenshot of a very high profile member of the community saying "Can't believe that idiot Gonzo is giving PF to the classics at $h!tfest" and that's far from isolated.

I donated Jaws for the main comp, offered myself and my son to stay late into Sunday night and help pack machines down if it helped run a longer comp and get more qualifying points. I had a couple of lovely messages from @roadshow16 and @Jackpot (cheers fellas)- but again, some of the conversations behind the scenes on WhatsApp about pinfest itself and the competitions is quite unedifying stuff.

Personally, I just like watching the finals of the competition rather than playing, but understand it's important to many. I'll take as may games as I can to help pinfest as a whole but never at any point did I think it would cause any bother.

Phil and the fellas are welcome to use the games anyway they see fit and I am putting zero pressure on any one them.

As for the classics . . . it's going to be bigger than ever this year and as I understand it Shaun has some new twists. But for the record, I'm sponsoring the classics and paying money towards the prize fund as well as donating a couple of games to the room. But that's where it ends for me, I'm not getting involved in any of the decisions or politics, Pulp is a modern game made to represent the classic era and therefore probably qualifies for both comps but that's just my opinion.

Hey Gonzo you've caused no bother at all, you've kindly donated two games and your time to make Pinfest a better event.
A TD can run a competition whatever way they want to. It's upto them if they want to make it worth more or less wpprs or prize money. But both of those do bring out the serious players who do take it seriously.

It's Shaun's comp and it's his rules, I was just sharing a common opinion, no shade on the classics intended.

There's a place in the pinball scene for all sorts of events of different levels. This is why I love it😄

Well I just want to say, I had no knowledge of any of these messages, or the prior upset and nastiness until now. Someone else I know well from the Northern league made a post to which I agreed, along with my opinion. 💝

@Big Phil
Please see my updated game list to bring below, some games have had to change since last pledge for various reasons.
Willy Wonka
Twilight zone
Kings & Queens (e/m headless)
Space shuttle (wms)
Monte carlo
Spectrum
Haunted house (headless)
Banzai run (I must be mad!)
Ones that have to travel headless noted incase they are to go in the other room. If any are wanted for main/classics/ladies thts fine, pls let me know and put them in the proper pledge area
Cheers, Andy

Andy . . . you are a thoroughly lovely chap mate and of course you wouldn't know about that stuff.

@David . . . It's cool mate, like I said, they are welcome to do whatever they want with the games. But Shaun is working hard and trying new things to generate a bit of extra prize money for this years classics which should hopefully be the best ever.

Ultimately though, the best player over the two days will win the classics whether Pulp is in it or not so I don't think it has any bearing on that. I would suggest that it's Dolly which would throw more of a spanner in the works because that will kick anyone's **** at any given time irrespective of how skilled they are.

Just to be clear, I only refrain from entering the competitions because I like to get pi$$ed at pinfest but I might give the classics a pop and film my attempts.

If Pinfest is that bad I don't understand why he (Neil) is coming to it.

Please screenshot the above for your WhatsApp messages. You know who you are.

N.B. I also know who you are..

Yes mate, give the fans what they want to see - your qualifying for the playoffs at the 2022 Pinfest open after that epic TMNT game was one of the best tournament moments in recent years! :)

If I hear anyone referring to it as $hitfest then I may have a little accident near him. I’ve seen the same individual slagging it and the organiser off in public, and have warned him in public and in private about it. He knows.

It seems that anything he isn’t controlling must be terrible.
