UKPinfest 2025 - August 22nd, 23rd & 24th

Thanks everyone for the best Pinfest yet.

Thoroughly enjoyed it and there's so many people who contribute games, spare time and general generosity that it's really a very special community of fine pinball folk.

Incredible event

Thanks for bringing your Deadpool. I played it a lot. It is beautiful and played like butter.

- I am so grateful and very chuffed at getting inducted to hall of fame and although I had a speech in my head - I actually got emotional at David’s words and made my usual ****y ramble -
I wanted to thank all the guys from NLP , northern lights pinball who have mentored Colin and I since 2012 and guided us in starting up the Scottish pinball association and supporting us both by donating but by fixing all the pins at our 5 shows in Glasgow - but also David Dutton , Wayne johns and Paul garner for coping with me res erecting the Scottish league in 2012 and keeping calm throughout all my IT feck ups and other dramas so that we are now at 40 members and ( not sure if I told you but ) have a Scottish league UK league winner 😀😀 thank you to the Scottish pinball association for putting up with my tantrums and urgencies , Chris, Traci , Alan , Jason and Michael and especially my old man Colin , who has been dragged through , broken down vans , broken down pins , clutches falling off , me falling off tail lifts and wrong destinations and hotels throughout this lovely 18 years of being in this community . I had a wee bubble after as although I have not the greatest knowledge of the working of pins - I love them and our funny , daft , weird , nerdy , clever and oh so kind community . ❤️

Another year, another amazing and much loved Pinfest, As usual pretty much everything ran like clockwork.

Highlights for me were:

The Peacock Team Tournament on the Friday night which brought in quite a crowd on onlookers
The impromptu EAPA strikes comp on the Saturday night followed by pound games on Hotdoggin which was an absolute riot, started with a handful and ended up with over a dozen and of course Jeremy with his Jedi ball saving skills
Watching the NBA finals, massive bants all round

Of the newer games absolutely loved Dune and Evil Dead, cant decide which I enjoyed more. Was also there in person to witness Andy Fosters first ever game on Abba, what a treat!

This was also my first Pinfest doing my own live streaming which went better than I could ever have hoped, especially modifying the setup to get the NBA finals covered. The wifi was near enough rock solid and in all got about 20 hours of footage over multiple days and multiple machines and comps. Thanks to everyone who helped me move the rig as it was too high to just push through the doors and help set things up once on a machine. Everything is now on Youtube from the event:

Am already looking at ways to improve things for next year, huge thanks to @Big Phil for allowing me to cover the event

Same again next year you crazy bastards

We enjoyed this one the most, I prefer the layout with the tournament elsewhere, although we actually spent less time there, we have only been on the Saturday, as we have never managed to get a room.

Due to injured wife (awaiting hip operation) I said once you have had enough we would go and after 4 hours she couldn't take any more.

Would really like to stay the whole weekend and get to know more people, and also the wife can get more involved as she would happily take part in the women's social. Then I might also finally take part in a tournament.

Our joint fav was Baywatch, this was a lot of fun and Deadpool it was just fantastic.
My favourite was TNA - This blew me away although I felt it played more like an arcade game than a pinball.
Biggest disappointment - Abba, we tried to love it but couldn't, maybe would improve if we could hear it.
Oddest - For me princess bride the playfield being a screen just melts my head.

Thanks to everyone who makes this event possible and to all those who donate machines.

Again, a gent in the queue with me liked the art because it was subtle. I, personally, don't think 'pinball' and 'subtle' should exist in the same sentence, but that's just me.

The lifting sandworm mech that dropped a ball onto the wireform was just great - on par with mechs like JP2's dinosaur, and with the drama (in lighting and film clips) of the start of Godzilla multiball.

I also heard a couple of people say the art was a bit bland in colour, but it is a desert themed film/pin so there isnt too much you can do about that and I thought it fitted perfectly.

And if you didn't get to see it, the worm also eats the ball, it catches on the magnet and pulls it down below the playfield and comes back out of one of the VUKs.

They could've just adapted the utterly bats**t David Lynch version... 😈

Its in my top 10 films, had a great original soundtrack that would have worked well in a pinball I think.

Also seen the documentary about when Jodorowsky was originally chosen to develop the film and that one looked like it would have been a visual marvel.

Yeah, I do feel the "oh, it's on a desert planet so the films WILL BE ENTIRELY BROWN (except for bits on Giedi Prime that are literally black and white)" was a bit of a wasted opportunity.

Hallo! Long time listener, first time caller.

This was my third Pinfest and after the congested 2024 event this felt much more relaxed, inviting and open so kudos for all the changes.

Definitely my favourite in terms of event, but definitely my worst in terms of my play. Wasn't on it all weekend, drains everywhere 😅 However, I still had a good time (and set a 100k score on the Galaga bartop).

Was it me or did some tables particularly on the right of the big room have a bit of a gangster lean going on? World Cup Soccer especially, the ball seemed very keen to push itself to the right constantly!

Anyway, time for me to look for a vpin again :)

@Big Phil Just checking as blocking calendars now. Pinfest 2026 is it: Thursday 27th, Friday 28th, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August?

Oh
It depends on whether they get to the half-human half-sandworm part...

[Villeneuve has already neatly sidestepped the uber-precocious toddler...]
Jeez - how far do you have to read to get to that? Took me 3 or 4 attempts over the years (since 1980) to get through Children of Dune & couldn't be ****d with any more.

Completely agree on that - but I did manage to slog my way through all 6 (but looking on Wikipedia to check this, he's written another 4 :()

Well here it is. Sorry it's late. Literally haven't stopped since I got home.

What a fantastic Pinfest. Separating the tournaments from the free play was a necessity and it worked really well. There were a few questions marks as to whether it would work but as pinfest has grown in popularity, the need for more space was a neccessity.

Thank you to the donators. Without your pins, we wouldn't have an event. We struggled a little towards the end to get the numbers but some generous people stepped up to help out. Thank you Neil for bringing Kong and Evil Dead at the last minute. I think everyone wants an Evil Dead now.

Special thanks to David at Retro Arcade Specialists for busting a gut to bring as many new titles as possible.

Special mention for Ad Jonker and the Pinball Amigos. Travelling from The Netherlands with 5 pins between them!

Neil also updated the code on the charity machines so they were better games to play.

I take way too much credit as usual. As one person, who shall remain nameless, said "You're the big knob in the middle of the wheel and we're all the spokes" Best compliment I've ever had. I think....

Thank you to my friends and family for working their socks off tirelessly all weekend. From Pete and Helen doing the electrics, to the smurfs, Scottish Pinball, Tim, Gonzo, Spencer and Windoesnot streaming and recording.

Thank you to Shaun, Wayne and their teams for running the tournaments. Thank you volunteer score keepers!

Thank you Aide for the Karaoke once again.

The hotel and staff were fantastic as usual.

There are so many people involved. I'm always terrified I miss someone and they're slightly offended. Please don't be. It's a whirlwind. Sadly the event is over before it has even started.

Thank you to those that raised money for the charity. Electrocoin and Retro Arcade Specialist provided the machines and you put your pound coins in. Darren Ball selling items and donating the proceeds. Neil splitting the money raised from his fun comp on Evil Dead and Aide selling the coasters. In total, we raised just over £1000 for the Sarcoma charity.

Congrats to Ailsa and Greg for being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Well deserved.

People keep asking about moving to a bigger hotel. If we don't get more pin numbers, it's pointless. For what we do, Daventry is just perfect.

Thank you everyone.

*As usual, I reserve the right to continually edit this post and add bits as I remember things.
