Is this set right as it seems to be getting damaged

Run your finger over it like it's the ball. If there is a lip then it's too high, if there is a dip it's too low.

The damage in your photo suggests it's too high and the ball is hitting it.

Adjusting it involves slackening off the giant nut and screwing or unscrewing the magnet, then screwing back up again.

you normally have to take it out and deburr it

Your magnet core is set too high, it is a very common issue.
