Complete The Shadow - Graphic Novel edition

Next up the diverter.

It was sticking so took it apart, god was it complex.

All sorted after some derust and new coil sleeves.

Next up the mini playfield.
Right target wouldn't drop.

Complete removal and cleaned the grooves with Novus 1.

Now drops again no issues

Next up installed LEDs and rubbers on the playfield.

They really didn't make this machine maintenance friendly...

Installed new switch leafs. Man I hate soldering.

Look at the state of the old ones!

With the derust complete and bad switches and targets placed I only have the backbox, DMD screen and Flipper bats left.

Thank God!

Here's a video to show the progress.

Love how the ball stops then thrown into that sanctum area that's pretty cool. You and your wife starting up a new pin repair business? you have quite a few on the go now lol?

Had a few say that they'd like me to restore for them. People must be liking the results!

To be honest I actually enjoy restoring more than playing them. Am I mad?

Restoring three at the moment. But I just hit a major turning point in Shadow it's now all clean and functional. Last (major) thing to do is the artwork.

I'll get onto that after CFTBL.

Not mad at all I much prefer to restore my self but never got any time these days :( hopefully in future once kids are older :)

More pictures.

Flippers changed out. Then changed back lol. I had new black but prefer the white with purple.

All GI, playfield and backbox including flashers now fitted with comets.

A shot of the underneath.

Given this is just a strip, Dremel and sand I'm relieved it came out so well.

Now when I sell it (if I sell it) I won't be worried about the rust!

You should be proud of that, what a fantastic job, hope you have a blast playing it now :D

Patched up the cab in prep for new artwork.

Side had a big wedge cut out of it. Took several layers of wood filler and sanding.

Dear God.

I finally sorted the Santum wall switch issue.

@SpiderPin msg me direct for some assistance if yours ends up being the same pig as mine.

Basically this was what was happening.

The actuator arm in the mech flicks up to reset the wall. Nothing holds it up there it just comes down by itself. The gravity swinging the arm back down ended up hitting the microswitch arm which then closed the switch causes error 51 switch error I had.

I first changed the microswitch as the metal arm was nackered.

I cut the metal arm a bit shorter and had it so the end lipped at the very bottom.

Also f*** soldering these things so god damn fiddly!

The issue still happened as soon as put the playfield down the arm would come down and cause the microswitch to activate.

You have a screw at the bottom of the mech which you use to adjust the actuator's arm.

I also found WAY too much greese on that arm its was basically flopping all over the place. I reduce to the amount of greese and then used a small felt/foam pad.

I drilled a hole into the pad and screwed it onto the screw in the mech. This now acts as a cushion for the arm when it falls naturally due to gravity but can be manipulated enough when the arm/wall comes down and squashes it down enough to make contact with the switch.

I now see why everyone says The Shadow is the worst pin to maintain!

All seems to work and I have pads galore if it ever becomes worn I can just repeat the process.

Last issue I had was with the game resetting with the error.

Sound board interface error.

Would happen at random times.

I think I've resolved it.

Whoever mounted the Pinsound plus mounted it incorrectly.

They didn't use the top and bottom mount brackets for WPC DCS systems.

Only the bottom and then screwed in the top using the standard mount points. This caused the board to slant and I think it was making contact with the plate under it causing a short to ground.

Its damaged one of the LEDs on the equaliser in the middle as it doesn't light up but thankfully the board seems to be operational.

I used the new top mount plate to resolve the issue thanks to my recent purchase of one for CFTBL.
