Hello friends,

Now I fixed my Bally Knockout, I was reading a guide about maintaining stepper units on em's some more. In it, it said I should lube parts of it with teflon gel lube. I've not heard of this before and a quick search on eBay just confuses me further. Can a kind soul please recommend me some, with a url?

The lube is for the shaft that goes through the big cog wheel. No laughing at the back ;)

Cheers,

Johnny

Hi replicas, Thank you sir. Yeah, I read it in Clay's em repair guide, but absolutely have also read to not go oiling/lubing the machine as sparks cause massive fires and stuff. (soz if I'm not allowed to talk about that guide, if so, please tell me and i'll delete this post). --I read a post saying not to mention it, but it might have been to not post from it or not link to it. Sorry, I got very confused!

Cheers,

Johnny

Cool, thanks Moonraker. I did get muddled after reading a post about it, and love this forum, I don't want to break any rules and cause problems. Phew! That's ok then!

I read it under chapter 2 where he mentions stepper repairs/maintenance. (I won't link to it though in case that's bad). But if you go to chapter 2 then search for teflon, you'll find it, scroll down as he disassembles the cog from the stepper and he says to use it on the shaft.

I tried searching on ebay and found some stuff that was either gel, or teflon, but not both, and I don't want to ruin/hurt my Knockout by getting the wrong thing. Not after the mission I've been on just to get it working.

Am very close to finishing off this table, then I can focus on my sega star wars trilogy which has a minor x-wing problem which developed on my first game on it :( that I put off investigating, so I could get my skills up a bit, as that's my precious! Though must admit, it's killing me not being able to play on it, patience is key I think.

Thanks again for clarifying that point re: Clay's guide friend, I appreciate that. *bows*

Oh wow, ace! Thanks Mooonraker, Luke, Ronsplooter and CoolDan - that's brilliant, thank you :)

I'll get ordering some lube today so I've got some, great stuff!

Quick Progress update:

I have previously stripped the playfield parts, indexing them carefully and have cleaned the playfield up with Novus 2 very very very carefully. It looks beautiful now. I will not attempt to repair the big worn areas. All the white tower plastics were filthy to say the least, and it's taken hours each night after work to clean them with a nail brush and soap and water. While they still are yellowed, they are vastly better looking now. They have been drying out and I can't wait to fit them back to the playfield.

Last night it took hours to clean the large plastics that have pictures on them with Novus 3 and I'm amazed at how they look. They were dull and filthy. Now they are shiny and clear, albeit slightly yellowed, no doubt because of age, but I don't mind that.

Today I'm going to try waxing the playfield carefully and can't wait. Once that's done, I will put all the parts back on to the playfield and replace all the rubbers with the lovely new set I bought.

Really can't wait!

I also aim to replace that coil on the centre lane unit, which was the incorrect type, with a NOS Bally coil that I bought.

I noticed that the flippers don't have much strength in them, and judging by what I've seen on the rest of the table, I suspect this pinball machine hasn't had much tlc over the years, so I will rectify that too. There are a few videos about flipper rebuilds, which have been very interesting to watch and learn from. No doubt I will need some more parts and skills, but it's all coming together now.

Soon I will be able to make my own lightsabre :)

Will create a resto thread given chance. Have been taking lots of pictures as I go.

Thanks again for the advice my friends, this is a brilliant forum :)

Cheers,

Johnny
