I'd say your settings aren't saving. Probably due to no batteries or dead batteries? Replace them and adjust the settings.Right I have got to the bottom of that problem, darren you where right it is a wire that has come away, can you recommend a soldering iron I need or will any do. Also when I select free play in the settling turn the machine off and back on again the free setting has feature has gone back to coin play. Why would this be happening ?
I found the tip on that screwfix one started pitting because of the heat. Had to keep filing it down into a point. It does the job but you still have to drag around an extention cable with you as the lead is so short.Good find. I have a temp controlled solder station which is great for PCB repairs, but for simple jobs in/around the machine like this I prefer to use my old cheap wand style as it doesn't have a base to lug around.
I guess I'm saying that both are useful so why not just buy what you need for now, something like this from Screwfix;

Some of us on here have this solder station, it's normally on sale or can buy cheaper from eBay - see what I mean about the base but its great on the bench
