Selling Advice - Please Read

I agree the TOM sale went of course, I personally and I think I speak for most of the posters was trying to highlight to the seller the true value of the machine which would hopefully result in a sale (the whole purpose of the listing), listing something on here when you have no idea as to its true condition or value and expecting a sale when your asking price is way off course is a pointless venture, hopefully our advice will result in the seller being well informed regarding what's on offer resulting in an accurate asking price that stimulates a sale, IMO not being able to sell it on here because the price was in the wrong ballpark would potentially cause it to go on ebay (seems to be a concern for some members), I hope that the information we bounced over was constructive for all concerned rather than detrimental as that was not the intention.

We have to remember there are people reading these posts that are completely new to pinball, by speaking the truth we are ensuring that these noobs are well informed, it is a bit off a trade of against etiquette I agree but I know which I would rather have if I was new and learning the ropes.

Thing is - I know we have the "how much is this worth" forum, however as we have seen, someones value is completely different to someone else's value....

Quite often in the past I have listed something where I genuinely dont know how much it's worth... Of course, I'd like £10K for everything, however realistically £100 is probably closer to the mark.

Something is only worth what someone will pay for it, no matter how much we THINK it's worth....
 
If the listing was flipped and it was a "peachy" TOM listed by a noob for £700 (someone not in touch with current prices who had acquired a machine 10 years ago for the same money and was just trying to break even) I would not have hesitated in informing the seller that it was undervalued and to hold back for a fair market value, I doubt anyone would have any objections if that had been the case so to be fair the flow of information is valid both ways, I do agree that it would be best in future to opt out and let the listing run its course without intervention although I would hate to think that stemming the flow of information may result in someone being caught out.

The concern that we can maybe considering tackling is inappropriate hijacking of a sales thread, the reference to prices in bygone days or the comments that are just not part of the constructive sales process and make a person feel they are not welcome or that trying to sell it to us is too much effort.

However, as we have turned my sales advice thread into another talking shop I think I can see where the issue resides. A large number of us appear to have Attention Deficit Disorder. So here is a picture to keep your interest.

This thread has been dead or at least dormant for almost 10 years. So is the ‘what’s it worth’ thread still useful, does it have any tables so I can look and go hmmmm RG is worth £££ in good-as-new, ££ is average, and £ in needs-work condition? Like a Parkers Price Guide for pins.

Is there a summary anywhere of what games re currently on the market? I used to buy unseen on here all the time, and (at my worst point of the addiction) I’d go to shows with a bagful of cash rolls and just do my dealing on the final afternoon when people couldn’t be ****d to drive them home. It’s pretty persuasive when you bring out a fat wad of twenties, i found. Be nice to do that again if I can walk up to a, say, Sopranos or STTNG and know the price range already in advance.

Problem is Dan, over the last 6 months pin prices have seemingly plumetted. So the information in that would be pointless.

However... it would have been good to catch the trends... Problem is that the listing format we use (Just another thread) doesnt lend itself to that. The previous classified offering would have more than likely given us that, or at least something we could pull data from...

Plus - the price on a lot of the ads isnt necessarilly the price that was paid!

You’re probably right. I used to travel with 4 or 5 rolled up cylinders of a grand each. Should still be able to get most things for that though, right? tbh I’m not really interested in anything premium or LE or all that nonsense. I really REALLY *REALLY* hated it when they started doing all that ******** - they design a game, then strip bits off it for cheaper, then strip almost everything else decent off it and sell it for ‘Pro’ or some utter crap title. I hated it. Can you imagine that in another industry - design something good then say you can’t have it unless you pay double? **** that. Total ****ing ****holes can do one

Couldn't agree more. When I get my first machine, it will be a 90s table. I cannot be bothered with pro, premium, LE or CE. Make it stop!
 
The market is very thin @cooldan

Very few games for sale. Just do a completed auction search on eBay
 
Hi, I'm planning on selling a Rick and Morty. I've had a lot of interest in it, and so, I've seen another user on here do a 7 day auction (albeit, for charity) and I wanted to ask if this would be a good way to sell or if it's against rules or better to just have a price in mind and offer it to first buyer?
Any guidance or advice welcome, thank you, Lee

A few sellers have done a Dutch auction. Which is having a high starting price and then reducing it by a set amount at intervals of your choice (daily etc) seems to work well if unsure of the price.
 
Sales items need to start with the wanted price but you can drop it daily, like a Dutch auction.

Ok so lots of people like asking "how much is x or y table worth???". So... Here's a thread to ask those questions....

Please post these requests in here and not create a new thread asking, since those will only be moved to here anyhow....

This means that people who want to avoid these type of threads can do so...
