"FRONTIER PINBALL APRONS" (BALLY) artworks restored by Zona Arcade and Mikonos for to be printed on portable silkscreen printing

INFO: The current method I order to print this kind of decoration is "Portable Silkscreen Printing", which involves the design printed with white-based ink suspended between two plastic sheets. It sticks just like vinyl with a transfer paper.

This new printing technology facilitates cheaper replacements than traditional silkscreen printing and avoids the color-matching process used in vinyl printing and the painting of the metal aprons.

This replacement is one-to-one with the original.

*Note: The white and gray checkered pattern symbolizes empty space where nothing exists in the print and which will show the background where the decoration is placed.

INFO: Portable Silkscreen Printing is an innovative technique that injects ink without any vinyl or similar backing. The print has an adhesive base, a layer of white ink for opaqueness, a colored layer, and a UV varnish to protect and preserve the color intensity.

The ink is applied to a transparent or white silicone backing, which protects the adhesive areas, and a backing paper on top to maintain the design's consistency.

It's applied like a normal sticker: remove the protective paper from the sticker, stick it on, and then remove the backing paper. Done!

"TAXI PINBALL APRONS 31-1008-553-RD" (WILLIAMS) artworks scanned and restored by Mikonos for Zona Arcade' site

INFO: There are several pinball machines that also share this type of decoration, which I've already restored. The difference between them lies in the part number designation, composed of numbers and letters, the text font, and its relative position to the central Williams logo.

The current method I order to print this kind of decoration is "Portable Silkscreen Printing", which involves the design printed with white-based ink suspended between two plastic sheets. It sticks just like vinyl with a transfer paper.

This new printing technology facilitates cheaper replacements than traditional silkscreen printing and avoids the color-matching process used in vinyl printing and the painting of the metal aprons.

INFO: From this moment on, I begin to restore all the decorations with the intention of avoiding the "Color Match" process, when applicable, and getting closer to achieving an appearance of the printed result as the original, that is, screen printing . To do this, I will use printing on transparent vinyl and white ink. They are more expensive materials than normal vinyl, but it is a smart solution to avoid correspondences with the original colors, since the colors change from pinball machine to pinball machine due to the exposure to natural light that the original decoration has received.

As I said, apart from avoiding the "Color Match" process, I also want to achieve a print similar to screen printing, so the pre-cut will be as tight as possible, thanks to the highest precision cutting plotters.

There will be a final appendix where I will show what the precut will look like in detail.
