Open Competition at Pinfest 2025

Overall I think the competition went well.

There are definitely some things we learned and can be improved upon, which came from having a new location and using new software.

Always looking to improve.

Personally, my favourite moment of the competition was @Jackpot 's reaction when James played his final game and it was clear he had qualified 😍.

Although the fairy tale ended when someone more than twice his height knocked him out.

I'll be using the result in the round people got knocked out to split ties.

i.e. If you lost 3-2, you'll be above anybody who lost 3-1, who will be above those who lost 3-0.
If it was the same losing record theyll be grouped equal.

So for the 5th - 8th, it will be

5th= Rich Mallet & Dave Fowler
7th Craig Pullen
8th Greg Mott.

I'll be working out, and submitting the rest tomorrow with Janice.

It will be close to whether we had enough ratified players to reach Certified++ but it will be close 🫰.
I don’t think it’ll be close to Certified+ Wayne, you need 128 rated players and there were definitely a lot more than 7 players with <5 tournaments under their belts. It should be Certified though 🙂

I know, it's a shame that so many people who have entered in the past didn't enter this year, for whatever reason, despite being present.

But it's peoples own choice if they want to enter, just glad that everybody seemed to have had a great weekend.

A memorable moment for sure for myself and James. Thanks Wayne, Janice and anyone who helped to put on the comp - huge efforts very much appreciated.

Already queried.

There also appears to be a number of players whose country doesn't match. These have all been taken from your matchplay entrants.
So could all players please review the submission and let me know if you have been linked incorrectly.
Country for me is showing as USA on ifpa and UK on matchplay.

You might need to login to the IFPA site and set this yourself, it says its registered so is linked to an email address.

There is a past tournament in the USA under your name on the IFPA website from 2011, if that wasnt you then likely there has been a mix up with someone who has the same name.

Unless he flew all the way over from Australia (and I didn't see him all weekend), Tom Fletcher UK wasn't there

Will the real Tom Fletcher please stand up!
They also entered the Classics, so will need details for that as well.

All that is needed, is for people who believe they have been entered incorrectly is to contact me with their IFPA number, I'll take care of the rest, as I said above

I really wish I had. Gutted that I didn't

Either you or Wayne will have to contact IFPA and say you're a different/new Matt Carr, you'll probably end up called "Matt Carr UK"

It's partly my fault. I hijacked the US player with the same name when summiting your league results Matt. Would be better to contact ifpa and have them remove the inactive USA player (or rename him to Matt Carr USA)

I had a ..UK postfix on my name for a good while until I got fed up with constantly having to get ifpa to correct things when the wrong name was chosen. If the other guy is inactive then you should be the 'Matt Carr' imo

IFPA did something funny with mine recently, I was always Chris Miller and there was another with a US state after his name but was registered a year after mine and isnt currently active, but now Ive been changed to Chris Miller UK.

There are 4 Chris Millers on there and I have the lowest IFPA number of the 4, and all have something on the end of their name to separate them.

They really need to fix their database to not have a requirement for unique names. The Tom Fletcher mess is a good example of how awful it is.

How does one get an IFPA ranking in general? Do you need to sign up for the points to start counting? :D

It requires no input from you, if you play in a sanctioned comp you'll have an IFPA number
And then you'll need to enter X amount of comps before you get a ranking, not sure of the number but think its 5.

Actually this may be wrong, sure someone mentioned they needed to do at least 5 comps for something on IFPA, have 2 friends that have 2 and 3 comps under their name and they both have a ranking.

And then you'll need to enter X amount of comps before you get a ranking, not sure of the number but think its 5.

Actually you do get a ranking immediately after your first comp - you will be at least 680th in the UK after playing in just one ranked tournament anywhere (we only have 680 active players currently, though it would be great to keep growing).

After 5 comps, you become a "rated" player, which means you being present also contributes to the ranking points available at a tournament.

As David said. The league finals may be your first sanctioned comp. It's worth a pittance unfortunately, but I'll get those submitted tonight*

Then you need @ailsaclunie to consider adding a 'regional finals' event so the Scottish league as a whole can earn ranking points 😁

He has indeed flown to Australia and is living there at the present time.

I got the UK designation added.

I also played the other chap at pinfest and I knew he was TF UK.

Perhaps and I'm going out on a limb here it was another Tom Fletcher as he picked up his t-shirt pack for the Classics?

Looks like a big cock up somewhere.
Bit of an exaggeration. :D

The problem comes when players first sign up to Matchplay.

You are issued with a Matchplay number. You then have to 'claim' the player which matches your name from the IFPA database from the suggestion Matchplay gives you. All that has happened is that a couple of players have themselves picked the wrong name to claim, having never previously played a Matchplay comp (regardless of having played an IFPA comp).

Easily fixable themselves in MP. They then need to give me their IFPA number so I can get in touch with IFPA and have their result updated.

Simples.

Issues with wrong country attributed to them have happened prior to this Open at Pinfest, and need sorting between the player and IFPA themselves.
