Machines for loan / on loan. Always Updated!

So tempted by this... it's just getting it to me. Although one of my refrigeration lads lives in Brum and could pickup....

Bride available for loan for around 6 months . No sound at moment so really needs to go to someone technically . Have original and spare sound board to try. It went quite during play blackpool where admittedly it was cranked up . Everything else working fine including head.

Collect from electric circus Birmingham b33

Probably just an amplifier issue I would imagine mate, do not think its a hard fix @steve brum

*BASIC RULES*

These are the rules I have quickly come up with and an very open to change these as requested.

Keeping the machine in good clean order is the responsibility of the borrower.

Proof of residence and offline contact details should be provided / ID etc should be provided by the borrower.

Minor faults are the responsibility of the borrower.

Accidental Damage is the responsibility of the borrower

The individual terms of each machine can be worked out between the lender and the borrower

Natural wear and tear and failures, parts should be covered by the lender but could be fitted by the borrower.

Loan machines that are loaned for the purpose of restoration works - all parts will be paid for by the lender.

It is suggested that a photographic record is kept of the general condition of the machine at the point it is collected by the borrower to alleviate disputes later.

The main reason for this is so we can have a lot of fun playing machines we either couldn't afford to buy or to help out another member who doesn't have the space. Please respect others property accordingly... These are *NOT* cheap toys.

In the case of theft or serious damage not caused by natural wear and tear then all costs and repairs will be covered by the borrower.

If you are not a technical person and something goes wrong, no worries there is going to be someone local to you that will only be too glad to help you for a good mug of coffee and a sandwich, especially if the person you loaned the machine from isn't local.

Transport is the responsibility of the borrower unless otherwise arranged. Just be reasonable, offer fuel money if you are having one delivered. Use a courier if needed, there are a few that specialise in Pinballs.

Most of all use common sense and be honest.

Hi I’m new here. I would appreciate any advice on pinballs to buy please. Although the idea of loan also appeals to me. I live in the Essex area. Thank you in advance. Warran.

Any technically minded interested in long term loan of my Genesis. It was working perfectly for over a year but after changing some flash bulbs it looks like the switch matrix has been shorted as when you press the start button it now goes into test! We have so many projects on the go it will just sit in the corner but I can't bear to sell it as it's so much fun . It's an 80b game so more for the hardcore lol . Happy for it to be on loan for a year plus . Can be collected from electric circus Birmingham B33 .

I decided I'm too attached to it . Genesis was the 8th game I bought when it was only 3 years old and I enjoyed that onr for 5 years so was glad to get one back last year. Making tough choices at moment but Genesis now staying albeit on loan

How does pinball machine loaning work? What costs are involved. I would love to buy my own table but thinking it might be more realistic to be open to a loan arrangement for starters?

Best bet is to get yourself to as many comps, league meets as you can. Introduce yourself, get known by people and there may well be the offer of a loan.
That's how I got 'my' first machine, loaned to me by @Telboy . Once I'd taken the plunge and bought my own I was then able to do temporary swaps.

@Wayne J Thank you for responding, appreciate novice questions from a newcomer to the pinball playing community may be irksome and tiresome to some.

There is no cost involved in loan (at least in the ones I have done). There is an expectation that you will play and look after the machine (my view but I expect this be agreed by most).

Just wanted to ask about PAT Testing? I was browsing some older threads on here regarding pinball loans and the need to have this done came up a few times.

I have a table arriving in the next few days on a month’s loan. Yippee!

It was a pleasant B’Day surprise arranged on the sly by my Mrs.

As far as I know only the fee and delivery details have been discussed but she wouldn’t have raised the issue/need of a PAT Test.

Is this something I should contact the table owner about in advance and do you have any other recommended questions I should clarify with them before I take delivery of the table.

My head has been in the clouds due to the surprise and thrill of having a table at home, only now realising there may be considerations to be agreed up front.

PAT testing is only needed if you are putting something out for ‘public use’.

For home use you have zero need for a PAT test! Yes, I am qualified to say this by the way.

As a back up (if you don’t have an rcd in your fuse board) run it thru an rcd adaptor.

@Pick Holder Thank you for putting mind at rest regarding P.T.

Now, tell me more about this adapter I may need, lol! I’m a fool, sorry. Live in a new build house, 4 years old or less. Got solar panels on the roof. No idea if any of that is relevant to what electrics set-up I have in the house [emoji3526]

According to the wife, the machine owner is an operator who has machines in public locations and (presumably) sometimes home locations. Would they bring one of these adapters with them?

@Pick Holder Ha! Ha! Ha! That comment made me spit my drink out laughing. Thanks buddy: trust me, I’m the worrier. Was just goggling RCDs and consumer fuse boxes, lol!

Cheers for the informed advice, patience for dealing with an idiot and for that laugh.

No issues.

All I would say is if you borrow a machine and something goes wrong then either ask here for advice or tell the owner. Most things can be fixed and it’s not worth worrying about say for example if a coil burns out. It happens.

@Pick Holder Yes, I definitely intend to ask the owner on delivery of the table about this matter should any potential faults occur during my paid loan period.

Thanks again mate.

If you are paying for it they should repair it for you!

It’s not really a loan - it’s a rental :)

Anyway. What are you having?

Been having a blast with AFM and had word from the benevolent owner that I can keep it on loan past our originally agreed date. Result!

Wonderful news mate

Anyone got a pinball to loan out on a hire purchase? Had 2 off members on here Andy and Ben. Since then bought them both. Maybe someone has something in storage that would benefit from been used and maintained.
