I am getting into nudging the machine on NF and am beginning to have some success, but either I am being too vigorous, or there is something wrong with the bob on the machine, anyone on instance of nudging will normally give between 2 - 4 warnings "Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey" being one warning each, I have the machine up to 10 warnings now before TILT, but on longer balls will be getting TILT every now and again. Thoughts looking at the setup? Or am I just too physical?

Just a bit !
But the bob will keep on swinging also too

Trick is to move the machine and make the bob not to move

Watched @mufcmufc many times ,he is the mater of it :D

If you move the bob up higher you will get warnings (and then tilts) more frequently as it doesn't have to move as far to make contact with the outer ring.

That is how you adjust how much people are allowed to throw the machine around without getting warnings and tilts.

You need to learn to nudge without the bob moving, Just dont ask me how - I cant do it! o_O

GULP - I certainly don't want to be moving it up then...

I didn't think I had been shoving it about that much... apparently not LOL

Haha, Its usually two warnings then tilt, so you're letting yourself off lightly with ten warnings, but its your game so set it up how you want and enjoy it.

I usually tilt my fishtales once every few games, so I guess that's more sensitive than my other machines. I don't usually mess about with things like that so they are left as they are when they arrive here.

I've got a league meet here in a few months so I might play about with mine to make them all more consistent.

Yea you definitely need to get your tilt bob set up so it's in the middle of the ring before anything else, otherwise it won't be consistent. I don't change the number of warnings on a machine myself, generally 2 per ball and then tilt.

Nudging is an art and takes practice to get good at. One of the simplest things to understand though is that short, sharp movements have a lot less effect on the bob then long slow ones due to inertia. In other words you can get away with slapping/hitting the machine a lot more than wrestling with it.

It sounds like your legs aren't as tight as they should be, tighten up the leg bolts and see how that changes things. You don't need to be putting massive effort into moving a machine to make a save. That's why it's called nudging and not dragging or throwing ;)

If the leg bolts don't tighten up solid or don't grip it could be that the thread has gone, buy a new set of 8 bolts and see how that improves things.

Also bear in mind that there are many different types of tilt Bob and settings for them...

Also the flooring makes a massive difference easier to slide on laminate and concrete.

All games at SWL have rubber feet protectors on the front to help prevent sliding on the laminate flooring.

  • Don't play on carpet. If you have to, put down some wood or something. Even if you don't like moving the machine about, plusher carpet especially will hamstring your ability to nudge.
  • A well timed smack helps, though not as much as a good little push, and excessive smacking both knackers your hands and can **** off machine owners if you start doing that on other people's machines. Overall I don't like smacks as a technique but I see it too often to not mention that people do it.
  • Refine your technique. The bob is lower down on the machine than the playfield and is almost always on the left - in theory the game should all move as one piece but in reality it doesn't. Also, the bob is a suspended piece, not directly hooked up, so you will physically move the ring of the tilt bob more directly than the bob itself, so sharp, medium-strength pushes can get the job done safely whereas a lighter push for longer would trip.
  • Ten warnings before tilt is a game that you should never tilt on, and also where you shouldn't be losing any ball in under 30 minutes... turn that back down!!
  • The reason that a huge slide move can be performed while only collecting two warnings or less is the same reason that you can whip the table cloth out from underneath plates if you do it sharply and cleanly enough.

I use tilt settings along with outlane adjustments to regulate game times on my machines.

If you have folk over on a game that is set too easy, game time is forever and geezas are stood about getting bored.

Some others like mega long games - hobbit, spider man etc as they have very deep rules so you need long ball times to access all the features of the games.

Horses for courses, but as you get better, you may well choose to tighten up your game settings to make them harder .

Thanks all for some really good advice, today I have done a few things and it has definitely improved my play.

Step 1. Watch a couple more videos.
Step 2. Take into account I do have a plush carpet, those SDTM shots, I am not going to maneuver out of, but the outlane ones, I have got a method.
Step 3. Tighten Legs, this needed doing and the game feels "tighter" because of it too.
Step 4. Re-level - after tightening the legs, the game went off level.
Step 5. Take out entire bob mechanism, the wingnut wasn't tightening up and needed taking down to the vice, dousing in WD40 to get it turning on the pin, took that up and down a few and reattached with the bob further up.
Step 6. Refine and enjoy.

I am now getting only on "Hey" on my serious nudges on the outlane and my "taps" will now generally not cause any tilt warning at all, so three is certainly enough for me with the setup actually working right.

NF is a cruel mistress though, I have smashed the 1,000,000,000 a few times today, usually with a 200,000,000 either side of it, oh and of course those amazing 400,000,000 first balls that end on 520,000,000 all drained. The final mode is still eluding me.

Lovely.

Hi,

There would originally have been two wing-nuts used, to lock the cone onto the threaded tilt rod. Now that things are freer, you'll probably find that with only one it'll migrate down the rod, maybe to the point of falling off.

To get to the final mode on NF,
Always select 'Start Challenge'
Let the mode time out.
Shoot the skull to start another.
You 'only' need 5 challenges to have mini wizard modes ready to go.

During the mode either trap the ball and hold, or shoot the left ramp and go for jumps (no chance of losing the ball up there.

A boring way of doing it, and not maximising scoring potential but is best way to ensure seeing wizard modes.
If you're still struggling, you could always set the number of balls to 5, then reduce them when you've got there a couple of times.

Whatever happens just have fun playing.

Pretty much everything above but the best advice I can give is (typically with the out lanes) nudge before you think you need to nudge. Don't risk out lanes. Get the ball out of there.
