That certainly looks like the situation where the charging network will make the fuel costs higher with an EV. The charging times and costs are terrible and would certainly influence me over buying an EV if that was my regular journey, unless I like taking breaks.
It misses mentioning the relative costs from servicing either vehicle, which may make some ways into balancing those costs but that is sort of a capex opex conversation.
@carl lawrence, cars break down, EV's break down, parts can be hard to get, it is a shame when a company have a good product but it gets let down by faults and ones that can't be quickly fixed.
@DRD, there isn't an attack on information, just trying to balance the conversation.

I drove one of these in the eighties around Ealing on my Saturday milk boy job, would get slower and slower as you got to the end of the milk round.
They were pretty reliable with only a few going flat now and again in the whole depot.
Going around the Hanger Lane Gyratory was fun as a kid.

It’s a common fault and this dealership is full to the brim with this problem apparently and the car was less then a year old when it went in for a computer update .Not good really considering how much extra a electric car cost !

It’s not just an EV or ICE issue, I work on CNC machine tools, specialising in one particular Japanese manufacturer, they happen to be the biggest machine tool manufacturer in the world…
So, how would you feel if you bought a machine in 2023 to now be told the part you need is no longer available and your £1/4M machine is now scrap! No parts available and they won’t be made available! In the future, It’s happened a few times already!
It’s just the EV thing makes a story, the Luton car park fire was a great example, huge news that it was an EV that caused the fire, then when it became clear it was an ICE car that caused it the press and flat earthers weren’t that interested.

I think all the high end electric cars are in the same boat ie Mercedes EQ range which are crazy expensive new but can be picked up super cheap now.

Had a porsche for a while back in the day, beautiful cars to drive but I saw a tycan parked up outside the shops the other week and just thought.. you poor sod. Absolute money pit.

Corporate EV buyers and company car drivers (especially high earners) get fantastic tax benefits. Pals of mine took EVs solely for this reason. These subsidies artificially inflate demand and lower the entry cost.
Higher income families often have multiple cars so the range anxiety can be managed.

Doing a search on the fastest depreciating UK cars in 2023, it would appear that harsh depreciation is not solely an issue with EV's, it is apparent across all vehicle types.
Autocar report a 3 year old Audi A8 will shed 61% of it's value in 3 years, so if someone can find a 3 year old Porsche Taycan for £30,888 (395 of £79,200), I would be interested.
And again, I would have considered myself a petrol head, I have nothing against IC nor do I feel I need to convince the world to go EV. The hate of EV's feels 20% fact and and a lot of unbalanced or out of date comments, some of which is designed to put people off EV's and stop the migration to electric.

I know nothing about any current car prices, fuel or electric. Passed the local Ford car dealer recently, they had used 3-4 year old Ford Fiestas sitting at 15k - 18k. What the actual feck, I thought a standard fiesta were like 10k brand new.
Just did a quick search on them, I didn't even realise they stopped making them. This is insane if this Fiesta new car pricing is correct

Nearly every scene of him driving he's planting the foot then moans about the range going down (also has heated seats on by the sounds of it
Then complains it accelerates too well and no one really needs that sort of acceleration
Also moaning that the car should be working out the range from his driving style, its a demonstrator that he's been driving for less than a day
but i guess haters going to hate, don't really get the hate for EVs to be honest, if you don't want one don't buy. simples
I do agree with the moving the screen wash off the control sticks to the screen is non sensical along with many features also available on higher end cars at the moment, non haptic feedback on volume, radio, heating controls etc are a step back not forward making you take your eyes of the road to see what you're 'pressing'

Petrol/Diesel vehicles are rapidly catching up with EV prices. Its not just the Fiesta, the Transit van has gone nuts price wise too. Fully kitted van in 2021 was 23k + vat. Now its suddenly 39k + vat for the exact same model (and this one was probably built in 2021 and still sitting in a yard somewhere!). I think the issue is that fact that it's being pushed down everyone throats as the "ONLY" other Eco-friendly option, and it's really NOT eco-friendly.
And for a lot of people it's not even an option due to lack of range. However people are still being forced down that route.
Currently EV drivers are basically guineapigs.
So here's another (off topic) example. Lets get people off of cigarettes onto vapes as they are much healthier (Says the NHS). Not actually knowing the long term damage they cause.
And then banning single use vapes (as was confirmed yesterday).
And then also banning certain flavours as being "too attractive to youngsters".
I get there's an issue with kids and vapes. However, put the same mechanisms in place as Cigarettes plus more and you would be part way there. No it's FAR too much hard work.
I havent heard of a single case of a shopkeeper being presecuted for selling vapes to under-age kids. I still hear occasionally about it with cigarettes, and then number of smokers has dramatically decreased!
I have 1 EV and 2 ICE cars, I’d typically walk past the ICE’s to get to the EV to drive. And on a longer journey the EV is the one I would alway choose for preference!
One of my ICE cars had its annual service last year, not so much major wrong with it (fortunately!) and the final bill…… just over £9K
My EV is now at 120K miles, I haven’t noticed and reduction in range, it still has another 2 years manufacturers warranty on the battery and drive, yes I would say depreciation does look heavy, but as people have said earlier it comes with a lot of financial incentives that outweigh the said depreciation.
That guy in the YT video above is hilarious, had it for ~ 2 - 2 1/2 years paying £1.2K/month and still has over 60K on finance I’ve listened to what he said and don’t think I could ever take any of his recommendations seriously, he’s clearly a dick!
On the EV front, mine was in for repair after someone scuffed it, I had a different EV as a loan car, it was possibly the worst car I’ve ever driven, a hateful thing. If that was the first EV I’d driven I’d likely never wanting to drive another! So, in the same way as ICE they’re not all the same!
