I just rang him about SM, it's out on site...he talked me out of buying Stern, he's had to service a lot of new ones, reckons the build quality has gone downhill since SM...but I'm thinking about the TZ, web price is right at 2.2k, slight cabinet fade on one side - unshopped but working, I'm tempted, does that sound like a decent deal?

Unless you're planning on putting it on site yourself - and assuming it's all working when you buy it - I shouldn't worry about these build quality comments, certainly with an SM :-). I have an SM and LOTR at the moment and both have been more reliable than mid 90's games I've owned (as you'd expect really, with machines 10+ years younger) - not that the 10+ year games I've owned had any major problems to fix either. Ultimately if it's for home use it's unlikely to have a problem that can't be fixed relatively easily, and there are some great Stern titles.

Wiredworm - I better get practising then...I'm not that good
Xenon - you got out, lucky you
JT - no intention of siting, I don't think I ever will again. Good to hear that about the Stern's, I was thinking about posting asking for people's opinions on the difference in build quality, I hope to own a Stern one day, even considered buying an AC/DC premium but that would break the bank. The pinball pleasure guy sells new machines with a warranty so he was moaning about the teething problems, he reckons the build quality went downhill after SM, anyone own more recent Stern's have an opinion on this?

Holy cr*p ....sounds like a hard way to buy a game. Reminds me why I have never, ever bought from a dealer - just can't be dicked with the whole pathetic car salesman side of things.

Buy from other pinheads - its just so much more civilized :D

Totally agree, apart from I have bought loads of pins from Phil at PH but you can't put Phil in the dealer catrgory. Yes he's a dealer but Phil needs his own category.
I am sure most people will know what I mean.

You reckon £85 is going to be enough for Martin to collect

Phone him up and ask.
Tell him you are doing him a favour cause he can make the trip his annual holiday and kill two birds with one stone. Tell him you don't mind waiting two weeks for the pin so he can get some sun bathing done.

Sounds like you guys better get along to some Midland meets then... there's normally one in Lincoln at Dave's. Speak to Kate @Kate Morris to get directions, etc.
The Midlands one? That's the one at Colsterworth right?

It's a possibility for me but Colsterworth is a fair way south of Lincoln and a good 1.5-2 hours drive for me. Might be a bit of a stretch. I'll give it some thought though.

Yes the first meet is at Colsterworth and I think that John has a top selection of machines to play so you wouldn't be disappointed if you did travel (plus one of his did pick up a best at show award at this years UKPP). That said you don't have to go to all of them (when venues have been found/selected) but it helps... :D Many people in the South West league regularly travel 2 hours plus to attend meets.

They're are normally 6 meets in the Midlands league, the one in Colsterworth is at John's but the one Peter is talking about is in Lincoln at Dave's place. Not sure if he's confirmed as a host yet and therefore no date for this one. Keep and eye on the league website as more meets will be posted when we get further into the season.
