East Anglian Pinball Open - March 2026 (full details announced!)

None of the 4 can be certified with current rules.

Plenty of time for someone to figure it out. Think of it as a puzzle 🤔

Really? I just read through all the formats and thought it was superb, answered all the questions I normally have when tournaments are announced and right up there with the most informative websites when explaining formats that I have seen. It really feels like they have put a lot of thought in, I think it's excellent.

But if they have missed something please let them know asap before a wider audience see's it

Wow, just wow.

As a supposedly responsible person who has experience of IFPA rules, if you spotted a mistake in all the hard work that has gone into putting this comp together, the correct way to deal with it would have been to drop Claire or David a polite private message explaining that you think they may have an error in the published information which may affect the tournament ranking. You'd also explain to them exactly what the issue is to give them chance to rectify it asap, especially as the website is now public.

What would definitely NOT be the correct, or respectful way of conducting oneself, would be to state on a public forum that there is something wrong with the planning, and then to ask if they want you to tell them what the issue is. At that point, your response came across as very childish - the sort of thing a kid a junior school would do.

Then when asked politely to clarify, to then to go on to respond with "plenty of time to figure it out. Think of it as a puzzle". I don't understand the attitude - is it some kind of a power trip that you think you are on?

I'm not going to say on here exactly what I think of this, as I don't really want a ban, but for an adult, who has been in UK pinball for a long time, and been the UK IFPA rep, so a position of some responsibility, and with a requirement to encourage the development of UK pinball, I can't help but think that your response above goes absolutely contrary to this edict.

Everyone else who has seen this announcement, on here, and on other social media have been complimentary and supportive. The ONLY negative I've seen has come from you, criticising the organisation in an extremely petty manner, and apparently also refusing to share your "superior" knowledge of the IFPA rules.

As @Fubar said - Nice one. Real classy mate.

How anyone can react to this news with anything other than huge excitement is absolutely beyond me!

This is going to be mega for UK pinball and I appreciate every single person working behind the scenes to make it happen :)

Channel 4 this time or are people still happy with Look East? 😂 (I kid of course but at the same time worth a go)

I don’t even know what TGP is.

Most people don't, but top players will have an understanding of it so it helps attract them 😃.

It's basically saying how much points a tournament is worth and when you need international players to spend money to visit Thetford its important. I doubt they'd visit otherwise 🤣

I had to google it: TGP = Tournament Grading Percentage.

So it's OK for you, and numerous other experts, to post on a different thread about a different competition and how 'simple' it is to amend the format, but when I politely point out that the rules published don't allow for this comp (over 10 months away!) to be certified I'm vilified.

I'm guessing the WhatsApp chats are in overdrive, based on previous screenshots I've witnessed. (Specifically saying how the format of the Pinfest comps - remarkably similar to the EAPO are "a $hit$how", commenting on the locations of them and even criticising the organiser.)

Being childish and vindictive would be not to say anything, wait until the results are submitted to the IFPA and THEN point out the error meaning the comp had the potential for losing a big chunk of WPPRs, or to suggest how they could make THEIR competition better, disregarding all of the hard work and effort they have put in to this so far. I guess that's the two-facedness of certain individuals here.

You're right, being vindictive and childish would be not to say anything.

Please help them out and let them know if you have found something that would mean that the comps don't get certified, we are all in this together and the IFPA requirements can be complicated at times

On that Pinfest thread people came along, offering feedback, they weren't rude. You were when you jumped on the defensive, rather than thanking for the feedback and trying to understand you told multiple people they were wrong, then you were proven wrong.

I don't remember anyone playing games in that thread, they just wanted to help make it a better event.

The EAPO main is the same as the Pinfest main last year, yes, which is also the same as UK Open, Indisc etc. there's a reason for that, it works.

Our planning group is rightfully going into overdrive wondering if we missed something, made a typo here or there. Because we'd rather get things right before replying and try to remain professional and not come across badly like you do so many times.
What does people talking about the Pinfest Comp have to do with this? Those concerns sound like valid points and you don't do yourself any favours.

And still you won't share what you think you've found.

I thought your recent forum posts were pretty good, you could have sent us a DM and we could have built bridges.

The team have done a great job of the website and getting all the info on there. Clarity of information is really helpful to lots of people (like me) who like to go into stuff like this with a clear understanding of what will happen.

Lets go EAPO!

If I am free that weekend (haven't had my schedule yet!), I will be venturing to Norfolk for only the second time in my life and I could not be more excited. Lovely location too - near Thetford forest for all you nature enjoyers, and a Wetherspoons round the corner for all you normal folks. I hear theres a cracking garage round the corner... it’s a very laid-back petrol station. You could have a couple of sofas in there… People would come in, relax. Lovely forecourt. Could have a nice BBQ out there.

Looking forward to this one - but as I am bang average at pinball and am likely to have a lot of spare time I am looking forward to visiting Thetford railway station which is located on the Breckland line and is one of the best surviving pieces of 19th-century railway architecture in East Anglia. Apparently the town was badly hit by the Dissolution of the Monasteries here's hoping they have done it up a bit since then!

Hi everyone,

As there were some questions regarding the eligibility of both our Main and Classics competitions meeting the IFPA Certified rules we asked Josh Sharpe, (President of IFPA) to double check our formats and timetable.

He has confirmed both the Main and Classics meet all the requirements for IFPA Certified

If anyone has any feedback or questions please don't hesitate to ask, either publicly or privately. We're hoping to make this a fantastic event 😄
