I am wondering about buying a cheap, rough early 80s game - centaur, gorgar etc with a view to a total refurb. The boards are available, the cabinets have simple artwork so are relatively easy to touch up or strip down and stencil, plastic sets too if you buy the right game .....

But playfields are beyond my skills. Are there folk in the uk who do a good touch up and clear coat job on a worn playfield pls ? It it vastly expensive ?

My head is telling me to wait until I find a game with a good playfield. But that will involve looking at loads of examples and travelling the country too many times

Thanks

Several options on playfield restos - very high quality touch ups are possible by peeps based in Germany or here in the UK. Not sure of prices, but is not going to be cheap (may cost more than the total value of the pin at the end of the resto if you are doing a relatively low value 80's pin) Or you could do an overlay - see @Nedreud 's excellent Paragon thread for more info, and a resto probably similar to what you propose: http://www.pinballinfo.com/communit...n-budget-restoration-1978-bally-paragon.6519/

I think there are a couple of guys in the UK doing touch ups now. @ronsplooter will be able to point you in the right direction.
Brace yourself for the price to be the same if not more than a repro pf.
There's also Henrik from pinball dreams in German who @elrikos will endorse.
