EAG update please

Extremely pleased to hear Alien is up and running!

Aiming to get there before the door opens tomorrow so can get some games in and look after the other stalls and what's on offer.

Not sure if they'll change that but the white bits are part of the modular flipper assembly. The blades look great by the way.
Yeah I realise why they are there but they don'y have to be white. I like the blades too, will look great in the dark.

Played well. The flippers seemed a bit under powered as couldn't make the ramps like you should but I'm sure you can probably tweak the flipper strength in the software.

As stated above, the shots seemed very unusual and different from other pins. There seems to be a hidden alley on the right hand side. Once all these minor issues have been ironed out should be a cracking game.

I'm with @JustLikeMe on the backbox design, its the large black bezel I think makes it look slightly odd, without that it would look much cleaner.
Minor issue though in the grand scheme of things - I really enjoyed FT when I've played it and am looking forward to Alien when I get to have a go!

Really glad I made the effort to go up to town today ........some thoughts on the pins

Aerosmith - Easily my favourite of the 3 Sterns there. Was fun, I like the band so it's a perfect beer drinking, mates round game that I would happily have in the collection.

It offers little new to be honest, being just Mr A.N.Other Stern in terms of playfield design - 2 flippers, 1 toy, 2 ramps, magnet thingy , and familiar ruleset...the usual. However the artwork on playfield and cabinet is superb. The new screen is great imo - I'm not 100% on the slightly bored looking cartoon band animation, kind of think some well edited concert footage would look better and more esciting but see how it ties in with the whole hand drawn cartoony look.

A few mechanical issues, the ball shooting into the box seemed to miss it about 50% of the time ??? The ball launch rattled around the shooter lane way too much, often not making it onto the playfield, sometimes jumping the ball guide ....????

Batman - Considering the hype around this, and the money being asked , this was a massive disappointment. This was a Premium and to me just looked CHEAP all round. Nothing screamed out Premium or WOW to me. It even has stickers on the lockdown bar !!! Stickers !?! WTF - how long will they hold up. For this sort of money that is unacceptable. Gameplay just felt tired and meh. I cant even be bothered to write anything else about it.

thoughts on Alien a bit later.....Mrs Grizz just in and off to pub for my dinner now ......:D

Alien was good fun, and different, love the theme and they have made a very nice looking pin.
As people have said with 4 flippers, it was different in a nice way for me.

liked Aerosmith too, not impressed with Batman looked cheap to me.

Aliens all the way forme very tempted

I grabbed flyers for those who asked me, and may have a spare for whoever else asks me first, for Batman66, Ghostbusters, and Aliens.

Interesting on the Aerosmith and batman - only 700$ between the two for the premium but I think batman looks like it has more on the playfield - the stickers are worrying!

Neil

If the Aerosmith is as good as it looks it will be in my sights in a few years when hopefully it's a more affordable price.

I balked at paying £2k ish for my TAF, highly unlikely I'll ever buy a nib (might treat myself when I win the lotto though)

Ah just reread your thread and you are not offering an Aerosmith .... Doh!

Anyone going to the EAG today or tomorrow? If so can someone grab me some pinball flyers? Alien, Batman 66 and whatever else Stern has flyers for etc.
I'd be much obliged if you can! I haven't been there since, '86 I think? I really should go next year!
Thanks in advance!

And as Paul said, good luck ironing the bugs out Heighway Team, oh and someone please upload some pics! ;)
To late to pick up any flyers, Big Stevie P was there yesterday so you can say the cupboard is bare.

ok as promised.

Aerosmith was very bright and colourful, and i like the cartoony Dirty Donny artwork, but tbh it just felt like i was looking at, and playing, a mish-mash of Metallica and Kiss. it's a pinball machine so it's loads of fun, of course it is, and yes i enjoyed it. i liked how it launches the ball about 6 inches over and 4 inches up in the air to go into the toybox (though the code was still buggy so it mostly landed on the closed lid, or waited ages before launching). Fun, 7.5/10, but nothing i saw was original about it though.

Batman66 looked similarly like a comic book, this time one for grown up kids. it seemed ok but maybe a little flimsy - i don't like seeing ramps wobble, it's like watching an old sitcom where someone leans against a wall and it buckles, that just screams cost-cutting to me, and doesn't really tally against their supposed price hikes in the face of falling quality control. Again, a fun game to play, but i had no idea what i was doing. i expected it to be like BTDK but apart from the crane they weren't too much alike. Colourful. like Aerosmith, i think the colour screen is a pointless waste of money, as i never look at it and would frankly rather have a DMD in orange and black, or in colour as an optional upgrade. Again 7.5/10, again nothing to write home about - if you're a critical seasoned pinhead like me - but will no doubt be very popular with new arrivals to pinball. Oh look, two flippers.

Ghostbusters i'm afraid leaves me cold, and most of the time i was there, nobody was playing it, so i can't be the only one. when we are trying to get more people into pinball, why on earth design a game with a wider flipper gap, an impossible right ramp that looks the same width as a ball, and no obvious direction from the lighting as to what is going on, re starting modes or locking balls etc. several airballs from direct hits on the pop-up thingies just bounced straight back over the flippers to the drain.oh, and 2 flippers at the bottom again. Meh. 6/10, i won't be getting one anytime soon - maybe in 5-8 years if i'm still interested and it drops two thirds in price. shame, as i loved the films and so wanted to love the pin.

Alien, finally, was a breath of fresh air in comparison. ok so it clearly has reliability issues, is late, and displayed some other errors (the video screen didn't fit the panel, the game autolaunched the next player's ball without waiting, a few ball searches, a few balls dribbling off the left ramp, not certan what i was doing - like the other games above) but it was like a different animal. wider cabinet, narrow head, lit up sides, lift-out glass (so the footprint is 2/3 the size and it'd fit in a smaller space), screen in the back and the playfield. 4 flippers. metal ramps. outlanes with rubber posts and way-back-in gates (like Centaur). a weird half-moon ramp on the left (think Spidey sense or Pirates gold) that needs a tweak as it always led to death but could no doubt be fixed. plus a sh1t-ton cheaper than the opposition. and did i mention it has 4 flippers? Coulda been a bit steeper for me, as i like themm faster. a work in progress but still game of the show for me, 8/10 and looking forward to updates. i wouldn't expect to see it ready and shipping before the second half of 2017 though if i'm honest. thank jebus that Andy got it working in time.

here's some videos

IMG_0240.JPG IMG_0241.JPG IMG_0242.JPG A few more pics of games that I thought looked cool, nice to see Daytona making a comeback, although to be honest I feel there were too many "sit down and shoot at the screen with a huge gun" games on offer for my liking.

Could someone going to the show today ask ElectroCoin about the GB screen protector. They might have 1 there. I have GBLE#45

Really? who puts a poster with "coming 2016" and then puts a proto game there in 2017? To anyone that's going to look unprofessional. Could have at least put something over that even if it was 5 flyers stapled to it.

I clocked that too but decided the guy is in week 3 of 2017, a few board issues away from distribution and has worked his ass of here and abroad to bring us a bloody exciting new pin that seems to offer more for less than all his competition. Due to the board issues they had to remove the most exciting pin off the EAG floor and spend the day and probably the night trying to get it fixed to demo. You have to cut people some slack occasionally, Andy, by leaving up the 2016 sign shows he has nothing to hide and is just running behind schedule which is industry standard by the looks of things and should prove he won't send out something that is sub standard... just my opinion of course!
