Cactus Canyon remake chat

I have read most of the pinside thread and I think many are in the same place.
I will absolutely pay a fair price for all the effort, coding, testing, manufacturing etc but there is a level of cost where I will not buy it because it is using FOMO and just cashing in.
I will happily walk away.

If it's under £250 i think that's an absolute bargain. I suspect it will be more like £1k min though. but what do i know. ha might be £50 :)

No blame to @philpalmer as the base price is set.
That price feels just too high and is a real shame. Half that, I could get myself a bit drunk and justify it, at £1250 I would want to play it to see what I was getting and need to convince the wife it was worth it.

My thoughts exactly. Just too much £.

It does seem a lot, although compared to the price of a topper, which is giving you more enjoyment? I couldn't bring myself to pay that much if I owned a CCR.

Pinside doesn't seem offended, although they did initially try charging $80 for delivery.

I’m totally in for this. Knowing code as I do it’s not that much for the work!

But I need to know what’s happening with alot of other things first before I outlay an extra £1k+

It is a tough one. There is some hardware, and I am guessing that this needs a new EPROM as the machine can't update from the internet afaik, so there is a cost for creation, boxing, shipping that wouldn't be needed if purely a DLC.
My fear is that there is already SE, SE+ and LE models, now we will have those with and those without that will become a pain when selling or buying. We don't know if the Upgrade kits will be in production for a while or they are a one kit once. Though I am hearing that all new made CCr machines will now come with them, so I guess they will have some stock for vendors to retrofit.
Again leading to those who were early in on their machines and waited for years, now having a disadvantage of missing a part that could devalue them.

My anti-fomo thoughts say no, my wanting new things says yes.

If I owned a CC remake I would buy it as it's likely to increase the value of the machine by close to the price of the update, so in the long term it won't cost you much.
Or pins without the update will decrease in value by that amount, but still the value difference between with/without will be there.
I would have thought the first is more likely though as it has now become more desirable, can't wait to play one I might be tempted in the future if it's good.

I doubt it will increase the used value by the same amount as the kit, the same way as adding aftermarket mods doesnt add the retail value of the mod to the used price.

I also doubt it would make any difference to the used value of the pin without the kit.

I was always told that my MMr was worth less for not having the RGB kit, XL screen and topper, so I regretted not buying those.

A bit different to aftermarket mods when it's an add on created by the manufacturer of the pin.

I have to say that the negative reactions to this offering has taken me by surprise. Here’s why…

Stern Premium machines generally cost more than £1000 more than the Pro versions, although they are essentially the same game, with pretty much the same ruleset, but with the addition of some figurines or a ramp or a playfield mech etc. The LE versions are often much more expensive than the Premiums, but are essentially exactly the same but for some cosmetic enhancements..

This Lyman update is much more, in my view, than a jump from Pro to Premium, because it adds new features to the code, as well as adding a couple of new minor playfield elements. So in my view the ability to upgrade CCr from the original offering to the Lyman version for £1200 or so is way more enticing than choosing a Premium Stern over a Pro version.

It would be difficult to make the case that the enhancements of most Premium Sterns actually cost an extra £1000 or so. I suspect that the actual cost of developing the new code and hardware for CCr will be closer to £1000 per kit sold than the extra cost to make each Premium Stern is. I have no way of knowing for sure if that’s true, but I do know that developing software is not cheap.

So to me the price of £1250 or so for the upgrade seems entirely fair for a pinball upgrade.

The reason I bought CCr was I figured at some point down the line I would be able to upgrade it to the Lyman version at about this price and get a deeper, harder game, and now here it is. So on that basis, I’m IN!!

I’m sure some will disagree with my thoughts, and that’s cool. It would be fascinating to know what percentage of all the remake machines that exist are upgraded with a new code.
