Addams family Fault

I have two faults that have occurred and i dont know if they are connected or just coincidence.
First fault: When GREED is activated for the first time in a new game, the green light above the steel ramp lights up so that things hand can collect the ball. The vault and the swamp also working as normal to capture the balls to lock for multiball. When three balls collect in the swamp, they fail to kick out. To get the balls out, i have to lift the playfield up slightly so the balls roll back into the vault and this then activates multiball. Once this is done, the balls will kick out of the swamp as normal. So i rule out the microswitch being at fault.
When GREED is activated for the second time and third and so on, the green light fails to light up and when the ball lands in the saucer, instead of things hand collecting the ball, the saucer kicks the ball out.
I changed the diode on the questionable microswitch as a possible cause. I did this as a few weeks previously, the solder had broken on the previous diode which was causing this same fault. When i re-soldered it, the game worked correctly again. Then a few days later, the two above faults have occurred since. I changed the diode as it was a possible obvious first thing to try. Exactly the same with the new diode fitted.

Hi. Was it ever working properly under your stewardship ? Or is this a new game ?

First fault

I would first test the switches in the switch test to see if they work properly. I have learnt that great care must be taken with coils, diodes etc to replace with exactly what you removed

I would then test the swamp kicker solenoid in the solenoid test

Test the hand in the test

Test the vault in test too

I had a problem many years ago with my Addams, it might be this. The join between the thing metal box below the playfield and the swamp under playfield assembly was misaligned, so balls were not going into the swamp properly. I had to slightly bend the metal box under the hand to fix this, but it has been 100 per cent since then

If this is not the issue, it might be that the swamp switches under the playfield are not being activated by the balls correctly, you might need to adjust

Second fault

On the second and subsequent multi balls you gave to lock in the vault, not via things hand. It makes them harder to achieve. This is how my game works, so I think yours is normal

Following on from DRD, it does sound like a switch is not registering in the swamp. Fill the swamp with three balls and use the test facility to confirm all three swap switches are active.
If one or more are not then adjust the switch position to see if they work then, only a small amount can make a difference between a static and moving ball.
As for the second issue, this is how my TAF also works. It is harder to shoot the vault.

Best of luck, welcome to the forum and ask loads of questions as someone will be able to help.

also , are you sure the balls a ball is not sticking at the top of the swamp , this is a common problem on TAF , , I put a bit of plastic in mine to stop the balls getting stuck in the swamp entrance and not going into the trough

Thanks for everyone's input.
The balls were not sticking in the swamp. i saw this on another site so that was one of my first places to look. The microswitch to register ball 3 was the problem. Spent ages adjusting the wire to get it right. too much and the balls would not run over it, not enough and i was back to square one. That is fixed. Just by coincidence, the microswitch to register the ball passing the multiplier needed adjusting too.
I still have this fault with things hand. Once multiball has been activated and played once, thing's hand would not work again. balls are only locked/captured by the vault and swamp.

it has always played like that. Always had things hand locking the ball for multiball at every activation. Unless there is something in adjustments where you can stop this working which i have not seen. but i have never adjusted anything on the machine.

I confirm that thing does not take balls for multiball after the first showtime. only balls locked via the vault and the chair (third ball to start it). If in doubt that the thing hand is not working trigger the thing lights and thing will take the ball and put it back showing the hand does operate ok after the first multiball.
Cheers Adie

Thanks Tyho.
I have had this confirmed on another site to. Somewhere the settinghave changed as the machine previously used thing's hand on every multiball. I have been away for a few days so catching up on emails. I will double check the settings.

It's a beautiful flag
