3D Printed items

Massive shout out to @Wayne J. I reached out to him via PM looking for a bit of support on some light diffuser rings I'd seen for my new stern expression lights online as I had no idea where to start.

He fully understood the brief, and offered to print them himself, incredibly reasonably priced and a week later they were in my hand and look incredible.

Thank you again @Wayne J , you're a superstar.

PerfectDraft tap handle toppers - with interchangeable logos. Text that small hasn't worked brilliantly.

Might knock up a wee arduino project to turn the dalek into a room guard..
(Just as soon as I finish the roadshow thing - which I actually got compiling again recently - just need to check it on an arduino again then just maybe I will finish it !)

Great looking prints. Out of curiosity, how many separate parts make up the dalek?

The bottom is all one.the mid another (minus his sticks). The rings on the top are separate and slide over another and the done another (other than the eye)

Thanks. That makes sense and a nice range of possible movement options if you choose to apply some arduino driven robotics.

Maybe - I mean the top swivels around anyway. I put holes under the lights on the top so I can pop some LEDs in there when I get around to it.
Doubt I will go as far as making him move around - but a motion sensor and speaker be simple enough :)

I

Not sure whereabouts in Cheshire you are, but if you are in the right area & can spare 7 weekdays (9:30 - 3:30) for online courses, plus be willing to spend 3 days in Leigh, you build & get to keep a printer - https://www.3d360printer.co.uk/

If you go for it, mention my name & I get something - probably a spool of filament.

Thanks for the info, If I go that route i'll be sure to mention you

Edit. I'm sure I'll get some funny looks telling them "The Judderman sent me" 😂

Latest project was a Harry Potter themed lamp, pics above

A Godzilla topper - with built in base plate to attach securely to the top of the backbox using Sterns existing fixtures.

Along with a GZ logo with built in hidden magnets. Intended as hinge covers, but works just as well on the coin door, or even my fridge 😀

These look amazing, going to message you

Lesson learnt. Don't try and free hand cut in the pub
To replace boring yellow and black apron inserts..

Should be able to produce any image now that I've got a professional Hueforge account

Found this the other day.

When you pull them right out it sorta tips forward and when you push it back the little handle locks it shut. 3 sizes - this is 1x1 theres 2x1 and 3x1. They modular too so they can slot together. Theres a back board that can be mounted on the wall and screw holes to mount them directly.
Pretty neat I thought.

My original thought was that I could maybe sell a few of them.. But having paid the subscription to get the files and sliced them I'm not sure sure now.
Would probably be looking at around 4,6 and 8 quids for the 3 sizes. (Which is more than I expected but maybe that's just me)
There was also this which looks kinda neat

But would probably cost £23 just to print (and takes 22h - so more time you factor in the cost of the electrickery). £23 is more than a roll of filament - not convinced that's a rolls worth of filament but not tried printing it yet so could be wrong

This keeps coming up on my socials. It looks great and they've done lots of testing and playing. I especially liked the one when they filled it with concrete to check the weight limit.

I had the same idea about these

But decided they were too slow and costly (but that was on my old FlashForge). Now that I am buying in bulk and using much faster printers it may be back on the table.

To make it a little more irritating I opted for the license that allows me to sell them "officially". Though it now seems quite popular at car boot sales and such to sell 3d printed items (at what I though were insane prices) not sure that was essential. But it felt like the right thing to do.
The subscription allows you to get 15 items a month. I got all the ones I wanted and I think I still have some credits left. doh.

I looked at buying the commercial license as well, downloading the files needed and then cancelling subscription - does the selling license carry on, or is it only as long as you're subscribed to them?

Funnily enough, there was a stall set up in the foyer of the hospital yesterday and he was selling all the usual dragons and eggs found on Printables and such (all under no selling agreements).
I started chatting to him about it, then revealed that I print and design a few things myself.

Long story short, he can actually design and paint stuff himself, but doesn't have the multicolour printers able to create them. So I'm now in collaboration with him printing lightboxes and Hueforge from designs he's created.

All the patreons I have for these say you can only sell as long as you are subscribed. Im sure this will be the same or thats surely what most would do... I mean a lot patreons dont give you all the stuff right away - but some do

I am understanding @Wayne J question now. I am happier to spend money for a design, vs a subscription of £11.99 for a month, or an annual figure. I can see what they have there now, and want a handful of things from them, which make one month subscription feel ok, and then cancelled. But if the licence says I should then stop using the designs, I don't think that is a good deal or that realistic.

I can see both sides.

If you pay the 'commercial' subscription entitling you to sell, why would you not sign up, download all of the files and then cancel after 1 month? Then continue to sell.

Saying that, you could just as easily pay the cheaper subscription then download and sell anyway.

I can't see many people continuing to pay a monthly fee when they already have the files - unless there are regular updates and amendments. This doesn't seem to be the case with this product, but would be applicable for someone like Eastman, or other content creators, who regularly upload new models and pictures.

Once a file has been released, to just a single person, you have lost control of it altogether and it is out there for ever. Which is why I've never released the files for the products I've designed/produced.

Generally buying a single model doesnt entitle you to sell the prints either. At least none of the ones ive bought do.
Some places are even stricter about this and say you are only allowed to make 3 3d prints from the model - not sure how they would ever enforce that. I can see how they would realistically enforce not selling unless you sell on the likes of flea bay or etsy and they monitor them. Even they presumably they would need to buy one from you and prove it was their model. Not convinced that will be very easy either.

Taking the Dalek model I printed as an example. If thats made according to the "official" dimensions as found on the internets and I make my own - the dimensions will be the same presumably. And with the print they cant even compare the file or look at the polys to compare iyswim. So I expect its going to be hard to prove. Not sure the end would justify the means
