What's new

Your PinLists - The Tables You’d Most Like to Own (one day)

Alien - the worlds most expensive paper weight..... Joking apart its a good game.

Must say I have pretty well owned most DMD games built over the years.

Had a CC but would love a CCC (was not even thought of when I had one before!)
Aerosmith Premium or LE - I love the PRO (that I now own) - just fancy a Premium/LE if one shows up.
Stern Star Trek LE or Premium - a great game
Big Bang Bar - play it on virtual pinball and love it. Capcom make some great games (like Airbourne and Break shot - as well as Pinball Magic)
Monster bash remake with large display - I think this is an amazing game, best of the remakes. Had quite a few (and restored) the original.
Must agree a bit
Own:
Alien LE
AS LE
ST LE
BBB never seen one...
MBRLE is just stunning....

Lroy I guess like me you're influenced by the Pinball Fx3 Williams packs [emoji16]

Mine in no order but if I was offered them all and could only have one I'd go for Medieval Madness.

Medieval Madness
Attack from mars
Road Show
Twilight Zone

Honorable mentions
STTNG
Fish Tales
LOTR (only played once at Pinfest but was the last I played and felt amazing! Got a replay score for first time so we made a connection [emoji23])
ACDC (sounds good!)
Metallica (like acdc the sound and feel are great)

MM and AFM are popular with good reason so I imagine it would be rather hard to get a hold of one?

@Gonzo Thanks for such a thorough response. Much appreciated.

Yeah, I only got out and started playing pinball earlier this year. Discovered the forum through searching for venues in West Midlands that had real tables.

I’d played pinball video games on and off for years but totally fell in love with Zen’s digital representations of the Williams and Bally tables when they secured the licence from FarSight. Think that was a year or two ago now? So basically off the back of playing PBFX3, THE PINBALL ARCADE, STERN PINBALL ARCADE and ZACCARIA PINBALL on my Nintendo Switch, I was eager to lay my hands on the real thing.

Haven’t looked back since and am gathering a nice list of venues to rotate on a casual, as and when I can, basis. Plus, attended UK PinFest for the August bank holiday and that sealed the deal in terms of confirming my wife was totally in too on us buying our own table at some point in the future.

To think as a youth I was an arcade rat - still massively into retro and arcade gaming now - who’d barely see let alone play a pinball machine back in the 80s and 90s. Now pinball is all I can think about, lol!

@David_Vi Absolutely, the Williams and Bally table packs in PBFX3 are a potent gateway drug [emoji2957]

It's a shame you're so far from Flip out, that seems the best place in the country for Pinball! I'm so grateful to only be 2 hours drive away 😂

Aren't there any pinball clubs near you? They appear rare but Flipout and Special When Lit can't be the only ones!

@David_Vi There are indeed. I’m lucky enough to live within about an hour or less of both Tilt in Birmingham and Electric Circus in Nuneaton. It’s more a case or finding the free time to attend [emoji23]

Plus, I lucked out completely with PinFest as Daventry is even closer!

Operators around in 1994 would be amazed at all this Popeye love in. Site killer. Ones l still deal with often tell me it was the worse machine of all time and put them off buying new games and keeping games like Addams and Getaway well past the usual site life.

@steve brum Noticed you’d sold off a few machines since the relocation to Nuneaton. Are you up to capacity on-site now or are you always looking for that next pin? Do you have all your machines out on-site or do you keep specific tables for your own home use only?

Just curious about the life of someone in and around the industry/community so to speak. Operators, repair and restoration specialists, site owners, retailers, home collectors, us general players and punters et. al.

Just out of curiosity, how much is it to rent a Fishtales for a month @Lroy?
What happens if it packs in within a few days?

For myself,
First gen Data east games
System 3 gotts
Godzilla
Goldeneye
Tx sector

Its now 1 in 1 out . We sometime know months in advance that a certain game will be available but sometimes games just come up. We have a few games in storage here we would eventually like to make available but our main lack of resource is time so they remain long term projects. TFTC Fireball EM and Black Hole are examples

Black hole is top of my list, what a game! You definitely need to get that out of storage Steve

@Horsey TX-SECTOR fan aye. Only ever played the emulated version myself and loved the music and some of the playfield f/x.

In response to your FISH TALES rental question.

This is purely speculation but I think the rental rate varies depending on who you get it from - company or private collector/operator and possibly even which table?

Seen figures like £250 for a day or two. £500 and up for a month home use. This was back months ago when I first looked at how much machines cost to buy or rent from online retailers. I hadn’t even realised machines were loaned or rented before then as I was (am) so new to the hobby. I think there are different rates for on-site use such as a split of the takings on top of a flat fee?

As for fixes, again I would assume it varies depending on circumstances. Generally speaking, if it is a minor issue such as a stuck ball, or a particular playfield apparatus not working (that could be turned off from the settings menu). Then the table owner might talk you through it over the phone but anything beyond the obvious would require them to come out. I imagine a lot of this stuff is done on a gentlemen’s agreement. I mean, you shouldn’t be expected to have to pay for a machine you can’t play for long periods. The fella my wife rented the table from was proper chilled and happy for me to call him as/if needed.

Sorry to be a little vague but I’m kind of a bit in the dark here about it all as it was my wife who secretly worked behind the scenes to get it all arranged as an early birthday surprise. I’ve probably already asked too many questions about it [emoji6]

At a total guess, I would say if you could find someone to give you month’s rental of a FISH TALES for home use only for £400-£500 or less that sounds at least the going rate.

I’m sure others here will know far more than me and can advise you more effectively.

Of course ownership is the aim but for those of us who are lacking the funds for a new table, I could see renting/loaning as a beneficial starting block. Having a real table at home is certainly letting me see how I might introduce one into my domestic set-up. Cost of course is the first hurdle to overcome. Family sure are happy to play pinball now though [emoji23]

I’m going to cheat because I can’t make my mind up LOL

From the Modern Era:

The Walking Dead
Batman 66
Star Trek
Deadpool
TNA

The Williams golden years:
Attack From Mars
Indy 500
The Shadow
Medieval Madness
Star Trek TNG

The pinball golden years:
1: Quicksilver
2: Flash Gordon
3: Nine Ball
4: Meteor
5: Embryon

On Alien don’t get me wrong its an ok game but I can only take the same cut sequences so many times the code is super linear. I’d love to see what someone like Lyman could do to a game like Alien,

Cheers,
Neil.

But then i’ve missed epic games like Iron Maiden, Ali, Alien Star, Monster Bash, WPT, Spider-Man, Cactus Canyon. Space invaders, Skateball, Alien Poker, Centaur, 8 ball delux, high speed etc etc.

I think having your wife on side is key mate.

My wife was aghast that I was bringing a pinball into the house whilst I finished my mancave. She has now played it so much that she's insistent that I get a new machine for the house when Popeye moves to the garden.

She's also showed an interest in going to Pinfest next year and staying in the hotel.

That Tilt place that you were describing sounds fantastic. I've not been to a pinball venue yet but I believe the one in Salisbury and another in Croydon may be my most local.

Sandhurst is spitting distance from me also dood. Funball 4 on the 27th October at my house...

Neil.

@Gonzo PinFest was fantastic. Definitely attending next year with the Mrs. Hope to meet you and Mrs. Gonzo there [emoji482]

@Neil McRae Yeah, bit of a trek for me (2hrs plus) but presumably not too far from @Gonzo @David_Vi ?

Shame as I’ve longed to visit your arcade in your garden since first seeing the pics of your ‘pin shed’. That term doesn’t describe Domino’s grandness [emoji6]

It's about two hours for me.
I was considering it but it's fully booked now.
I am working early the next day but still could be achievable

Edit: wait I'm getting confused. That one isn't fully booked...
Any idea what time it would finish?
I suppose I should check the main thread.

I think that's pretty much a certainty mate. Mrs Gonzo is a former Brummie so it will be like going home 😉

Finish about 6-6:30 unless you qualify then maybe a little later.

@Lroy £500 for a month? Eek! In 4 months you could have your own fish tales.
I understand that it is a present for you though.
Nothing beats having a pin at home, but if I was living closer to Tilt then I would probably just go there. £500 could get you a hell of a lot of plays on all the new machines over months.
