Hoping someone here can shed some light as not had much luck finding any info through google,

But in terms of WPC89, WPC-S, and WPC95, are the DMD's all compatible?

Pinwiki seems to suggest so but ive tried to swap a standard DMD from the two older gens over to WPC95 machine and cant get an output on the displays. The 95 machine is currently using a color DMD which is powered through the 12/5v out on power board rather than the power connector on the AV board so im thinking maybe there is a fault with the DMD power connector on AV board.

Ive tried using the power cable from 89/s machines and they work fine on the original machines so dont think its a cable issue.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on here?

Thanks.

Yes, they should be interchangeable so it sounds like there's a fault in the AV section of the 95 driver board... which might be why the machine was fitted with a colour dmd.

yeah thats what im thinking. All the cables check out so was hoping it would just be a straight swap.

Bugger, not worth the hassle (or rather the cost) of changing the AV board so looks like the machine keeps the colourdmd!

Thanks for the advice

I just thought I would check the price of the WPC95 AV board as the WPC89 dot matrix board was reasonably priced. Ouch, £400+vat and out of stock. Quite a jump from £120.

Or repair it if it looks fairly clean otherwise.
I haven’t repaired the HV on a 95 board yet, I did a 89 and that was not cheap in parts and my time.
So again, the Pin2dmd price, plus the colour benefits (if you like them), make it a very easy decision.

Or get a piggyback hv board

Wasn't @David retro going to stock homepin parts in uk? Maybe ask if he has one in stock.

Got one left in stock
Thank you for the mention

Thanks for the info guys,

Was only swapping out the colourdmd as new owner is collecting the machine saturday and I was hoping to use the colour dmd in another machine (new owner wasnt fussed either way)

As time is short ill leave it in this time but good to know there is an option if needed in future.

From searching around i get the impression this can happen sometimes with these old av boards.

Have you checked the high voltages for the DMD? I usually remove the fuse or unplug the supply cable to the DMD board as not needed with ColorDMD.

Hi Mate,

The machine was collected this morning by new owner so ran out of time on this occasion unfortunately.

Should of posted for help sooner!

thanks for the tip though, will bare in mind it the situation arises again.

Yes - they are the same but some dmds work in some machines and not others. As a rule they need 12v between the two HV rails. Some DMDs are less sensitve to this.

Now in the real world - I do not see many old fashioned DMDs - as most change to colordmd/pin2dmd or LED replacements.
