Happiness is directly related to expectation. I certainly didn’t feel let down when my Saudi boys lost 5 nil in the tournaments opening game.
Whoever got Germany must be feeling very let down.

As an aside, I ended up sharing a lift in a hotel with four of the Italian squad earlier this year. At that point they knew they hadn’t qualified.

All silent in the lift so I tried some small talk.

I asked them if they were going anywhere nice in the summer.

I had Germany and Sweden and the long shot still there. Had a feeling when that Swedish woman picked Sweden for me lol so I backed them at 125 to 1 for a tenner
