Have a minor chip on my 30 yr old merc windscreen. It is repairable.

Has anyone claimed for windscreen damage on their insurance pls ?

They all say that it doesn't impact your no claims, but does it open the gates of hell ? You have to provide masses of details at renewal time ? Your renewal increases ?

Thanks

Most insurers encourage you to get chips repaired (as it saves them having to pay out for a windscreen claim)

Most insurance companies do not require you do declare a chip repair for renewal, so in that respect it doesn't affect your policy price.

I say "most" as there are always a couple of crappy insurance companies that don't follow everyone else, so it's best to check your own terms

I’ve had many a chip repaired on my cars over the years, it has never affected my insurance no claims.

Even where I’ve had to get windscreen’s replaced, due to crack being too large to repair this has never affected my insurance premiums.

It’s not something you have to state as a claim.

If you check the policy it should confirm this for you.

👍

Just had a screen replaced on insurance for a classic alfa Romeo. The fitting was terrible with trim hanging off stopping the bonnet closing correctly….
“ must of already been like that, couldn’t of been me “ was the fitters response.
Then I pointed out the fact that a screw in the scuttle panel was half way in at 45•!!
Just about to have it replaced under warranty, as it’s cracked after 3weeks. (It was also fitted on the inside of the outer trim which looks awful 🤦🏽‍♂️😬…)…...
On the plus side it was £90 and didn’t affect no claims.
My advice would be if it’s a classic car with its original screen and it only has a small chip with no other visibility issues (mine was highly scratched) then leave it. On the aint broke don’t fix it principle. Just my recent experience. As i had one replaced on a classic lancia and that was an excellent job. You pays yer money and takes yer chances young David.
All the best Keith.
