Hi all I have a Williams Flash that has developed a problem with 2 of the displays. On Players 3 & 4, the "D" segment of both displays is missing. This is the bottom parts of the figure of 8 and affects 2,3,5,6 & 8. I know it is not the displays as if I swap them over to Players 1 & 2 they are perfectly fine and the good ones from 1& 2 show the fault. It is not the connectors. I dont have a schmatic so would appreciate some advice. Thank you guys in advance

Hello,

If these are the original equipment type displays, the Master Display board (with the Credit/Ball in Play/Match display on board) controls the other displays. There are two different types of this board, one using integrated circuits and another with individual discrete transistors. Whichever it is, the problem's likely to be with the components for ports 3 & 4.

The ipdb entry for Flash doesn't seem very helpful, but for Blackout there are drawings and schematics for both boards shown in the manual;
  • the i.c. board, screened with P/No. 2001-130-3, drives the segments of ports 3 & 4 from IC 10, via resistors R 8 to 14 (with R 11 for segment 'D')
  • the discrete board, P/No. 2000-140-3, uses Q 4 & Q 18 in a two-stage circuit, controlled by decoder chip IC 3.
