Found it! Whitewater Wanted Please 🌊🌊

He did me a favour. Honestly I think you dodged a bullet too. US prices for this game are mad. Did you see the guy by the way who made a MM from scratch?

With the available new cabs now and actual part availablity it's actually worth considering making one from scratch. The guy who did the MM did it with a budget of $7000 for context.
I was wondering if it was possible to make a game from scratch with parts available, I suppose it depends on the game and if all the bits have been remade

Yes, the lack of original topper really hurts the value of this game.
Curious why? I can understand having a topper should add a little value. It's not a game I know at all, I have played it, seen a topper on it, doesn't seem to do anything.

It’s a weird one. I’m not a topper guy but certain pins should have toppers in my eyes.
White water is a definite, Fish tales and TAF would seem like the game was incomplete as well without one.

I'm guessing like me your the age where you saw them in arcades played them and they would have had one so brain is thinking it's missing.

Maybe, but I think it’s more that they were ‘ meant’ to have toppers and so the pin is essentially incomplete without one.

I’d think the same with CGC remakes, I’d not buy an LE missing the topper.

I think there are three main reasons specific to this game.

1. Topper came from factory - it's not an aftermarket addon.

2. The name of the game isn't actually on the backglass, it's only on the topper.

3. It has a very cool waterfall effect caused by the scrolling lights reflecting against the foil backing that people have tried and failed to recreate when reproducing. Interesting backstory behind it.

So yeah - it's a cool addition which came from factory which no one has managed to reproduce. I think that's why a game missing the topper takes such a hit on value.

I remember a post on Pinside a few years back - a guy had a couple of pins in his holiday rental including a White Water and one of the guests stole the topper off the game.

Speaking to other collectors, Fish tales and Whitewater must have the OEM topper. If this is missing the value drops considerable. You could say 500 or 1k is too much as it just a fairly cheap topper. But it is what it is..

Didn't think judge Dread sells well without a topper either

Yeah, but that can be replicated and arguably bettered.

The topper is definitely important on Whitewater as everyone has told me in the last two days.

No doubt it's incredibly important to the price but it is ugly as hell. 😬

Il add to that kris …. It’s really incredibly important 😂

Thanks
Makes a little more sense

Yeh it's a big drop, for something that doesn't do anything. I suppose as it came with the machine from the factory it was supposed to be with it

Is it really that noticeable, be interesting to see a video of a genuine one versus after market?
I’ve seen an after market but did not know it was until told…..

I am going to word things differently.

All machines have a value range based on their condition. I usually discount the value of wrecks at the bottom end and OEM+ by people like @Ant-H at the top.
To complete a Whitewater, it needs to have the topper as it is an original and desirable feature of the machine.
What that should do is make a wider value range, as you can have a really nice machine with a topper, vs a tatty low end machine without. But I feel what has happened is the high value of an original topper has made a machine with a topper worth much more.

And I have a WH20, with an original topper, and I think it is lovely to look at. But the game will play as well without one and few guest of mine would ever know.

If it was ever going on the market I guess my WH20 would suffer as it is sans topper but personally I couldn't give a monkeys. I'm a casual player so I never have the time to bask and enjoy the missing waterfall and its absence made owning it more affordable.

I don't think you understand kris it's really important like! Seriously

Oh I know mate . . . I'm on the pinball naughty step. I never truly knew how important some illuminated tin foil was until yesterday but now I've seen the light . . . literally.

I haven't received this many messages since I suggested Medieval Madness was boring.
