Damn, all I seem to be doing is posting in this section lately.

Selfishly and thankfully, it's not my machine this time so who cares :p

But seriously. This problems driving me and my mate mad.
Once 2 balls are locked for multiball. It says multiball ready, yet when it serves the 3rd ball, the lock isn't lit. It doesn't play the correct music and there is no way of ever lighting the lock as it knows there are 2 balls locked already!!

Once in a blue moon it will work as it should. But rarely.

All switches work in test. Diodes have been replaced on all 3 ball lock switches and the shooter lane switch in case they were at fault.

Puzzled I am!

Here's a vid of the problem

Any ideas gratefully received.

Have you locked both balls then put it in to the switch test to check they register ok?

Other ideas are reseating the game ROMs and relevant cables...

As much as you can, we have checked and rechecked all associated switches.

We reseated ROMS and even burnt new ROMS in a last ditch effort as I thought it was software related. The fact that it does very occasional work correctly still leads me to believe switch issues somewhere.

"Is this normal when playing Whirlwind?I get the first multiball ,then the mega bonus ,I lock down two balls and the fan is going, I hit it under the ramp and multiball doesnt start again.Do you have to make the Millions shot to start the second multiball? Just wondering"

That is what was once asked on pinside - the answer was yes.
but from that it sounds like you have to go under the ramp, where I guess there is a switch-concentrate on that
Do not know the game well enough

try another ribbon cable in case there's intermittancy due to that.A pcb eraser or fibreglass pencil aross the bus connections is worth a quick go too

Once in a blue moon I have heard a full factory reset is needed to fix weird problems, but ya lose all your scores

For the first multiball you should be able to start it from the scoop under the ramp, for every multiball after that you have to start it by hitting the side ramp. From watching that vid it looks like the game isn't recognising that you've got two balls in the lock as the music doesn't change like it should do. The lock switches in WW can be right fiddly little b*stards so I'd suspect a problem there. Either your 2nd ball lock switch isn't working correctly or when the 2nd ball goes into the lock it's affecting the position of ball 1 on it's lock switch and screwing that up.......or your game is f*cked and you should burn it :D

The confusing thing is Chris that when the 3 rd ball is ejected into the trough and throughout the duration of that ball, the display flashes up "ball locked multiball ready" or similar.
I vote C. Burn it

When you lock up 2 balls go into switch levels, you should only have 3 switches active, Left Lock 1 (Bot), Shooter Lane, Left Lock 2.
