Looking to get a fairly simple will made for myself and the missis - I think its called mirror will? Been quoted the following, i feel its a bit pricey but I am interested to know otherwise
Do your own will. Print off a template online. Only thing I'd add from doing one for my mum a few years back, every page needs to be signed and not just the last one with the signature section. If it extends to a 2nd or 3rd page, sign every one with both the witness and person making the will.
Basically my mum passed away 2 weeks ago , her will is simple and straightforward so i asked the same company to do mine and the wife’s which will be a mirror will
Depends how complicated your affairs are, £1,000 plus VAT is a bit expensive if you’re just doing mirror wills leaving everything to each other on first death and to kid(s) on second death. However if you have complex assets, want to create will trusts etc. then that would be a fair price.
I would also go against the grain and advise you not to write your own, as a private client advisor I have had to deal with the aftermath of several “homemade” wills and they are rarely done well.
Will Aid is very well established and their suggested donation is £180 for a pair of simple wills.
The money saving expert guy is always banging on about wills in the mail outs, think there will be some good info on their site including that cheap way of getting one done.
Heh, im glad there is someone out there who knows how good GTF is
thanks everyone - there is great info on here now for me to digest . I think though i will avoid doing it myself as like i’ve found with my mums it is very clear cut and without any issues -
When I switched house insurance to MORE THAN last year it came with Legal Services and access to over 150 legal documents, one of which was a Will. Completed it online via the prompted questions, they review it to make sure everything is correct and it gives clear instructions on what to do with it so printed it off and got it witnessed/signed.
There's a lot of 'particulars' with a Will so it's worth getting it right to avoid future complications.
I’ve just used town and country law - they are advertising on Facebook and insta to do a will for £47. It’s actually 47+vat. They did my youngest daughters will and it’s a great service. They do it over phone, then the will is drafted, reviewed and sent to you. It comes with full instructions about signing, witnessing and storage etc.
I paid £550 to do my other daughters will with my usual solicitor and there isn’t much difference on the two!
Yeah, this is about what I paid - £100 for mine and my wife's. With a simple will it's pretty much 100% automated, so really shouldn't cost more than this.
Happy to take a call. I paid £600 for a mirror will and get advice and I don’t think it was complicated or the outcome was something I couldn’t have achieved with clear advice and a good template.
Planning it all is my main take away. The will lays out or confirms how you want your estate handle, executor and trustee. Who gets the kids etc.
Where do you keep the will.
How does the executor start the process
Who takes the kids and who gives them access to the money until they come of age and inherit.
I then wrote a document highlight items of value and key contacts to ensure those items are not lost in a fire sale. Not everyone appreciates the value of a pinball machine or art work. This document isn’t part of the will.
