Ok visiting the new location for Pinball republic today for a few hours before my train back up north (really enjoyed it tons of stuff I’ve not played before and certainly gonna try and be back soon)

But one thing that I noticed was how vibrant and clear the colour dmds were on lots of the games

Bit of background I’ve recently fitted a pin2dmd colour on my DE Batman (looks great and brilliant for the price on a small screen like this )

and also fitted a colourDmd LED on my T2 - whilst working fine this just doesn’t seem to have the Wow factor of say some of the ones I’ve seen today

Is there any suggestions on something stupid I may or may not have done ?

Appreciate it difficult to make a side by side comparison as talking very different eras / screen - will also the speaker panel looks in pretty good condition so not convinced that’s the issue (tho have picked up a replacement to test)

Any help appreciated

The LED would be more vibrant then the LCD, lcd is just backlight shining through lcd, LED each pixel is a glowing LED they usually much brighter and vibrant.

They use the same panels as a colordmd. Turn the brightness up.

When I did that on my LED in Big Buck Hunter, you lose definition in the DMD images.

I would guess they are brighter and clearer, as they are LCD, simple as that.

The LCD version of the color DMD has lots of different options too, large dots, standard, smoothing (so they nearly look like a cartoon) rather than a dmd.

The overall brightness is lower but in a dark enviroment probably not really an issue.

The LED displays look much closer to a 'real' dmd, the LCD ones are basically a laptop display, so a bit clearer but not as authentic.

ColourDMD’s do have a menu too where you adjust the brightness and contrast. Drop the speaker panel and look for the 4 small black buttons 👍

Anyone know which option looks better for SM?

Spoke to Neil and this was his take on it:

All of the colorDMDs on my games are LED version. They are set to max brightness but the games have a smoked plastic screen in front of them that makes the LED pop and then also hides the dots of the LED when the game is turned off. The coloring of ColorDMD and animations are significantly better than the other choices and maintain vibrancy.

Thank you will have a play and see if I have the brightness low

In the terms of the games at PR - cactus popped but that didn’t have a speaker panel

Kiss with a red dmd looked brilliant as did walking dead

Just to follow up checked the setting on the dmd and yes contrast was 5 of 9and brightness was 5 of 9

So will play with - also do people have a preference on the colour options RGB vs RBG?
