What is a pin really worth! Super Minty TAF 5k MAX! (Trying to stop de-railing a thread

Ok so we are told a super minty CCC with all the bells and whistles is worth no more than a TAF in the same condition. £5k
1st off if anyone want to sell me either of the above in that condition I’ll give them a hefty finders fee.
The last ok’ish TAF I saw go was about 7.5-8k if I remember right and to me it was players condition at best.
I’m not a fan of TAF it’s ok and it’s greatness Relys on the fact it’s nostalgia makes it a wanted pin to the masses inc 1st time buyers. I have had several over the years inc a minty TAFG which was nice as friends and family always gravitated too. Me, I rarely played it and in the end my RS got far more plays.

So what is a super minty TAF worth IMO? I’ll give 2 figures 1st what it’s worth to me adding to my collection and the 2nd to what people are willing to pay.

Nasty one 3.5 / 5-6
Players condition 5 / 7.5
Super minty 7 / 10-15

Yes 10-15k it’s been seen many times what they are worth to someone willing to have their grail pin.

I don’t want to even think what a genuine TAFG would bring nowadays. I sold mine for 7.7 in 2013 to fund a NIB

Worth to me / worth to other people.

Nasty one 0.5 / 5-6
Players condition 1 / 7.5
Super minty 2 / 10-15

I think you're right on the approximate value to the market in general but, like @Neil McRae, I don't like TAF very much.

NB: the popularity isn't *just* nostalgia because my five year old (who certainly doesn't remember playing it in his youth!) really likes TAF. So, I suspect it's the entire package - toys, music and modes.

For what it's worth . . . .

I thought they made 20,000 ish Adams and less than 1000 Cactus so I'd expect the rarer pin to be worth more.

I wouldn't buy an Adams because it's so inflated and there are games at better value.

However if one came up for 5k in players condition I'd buy it but the moment it's worth more than two other pins (Congo & Fishy for example) forget it.
 
This debate goes round and round but to me it's quite simple . What something is worth is what someone is willing to pay . The problem is people who don't want said pin, because they don't like it, saying it's only 'worth' x because that's their 'opinion' . But if they don't want one , their opinion on the 'worth' of that pin is completely irrelevant . Because they aren't going to buy one . I do think in that case they should keep that opinion to themselves otherwise it can get misconstrued as a proper opinion on the market value of the actual machine for sale which is a shame

I dont like the game personally so my value of it is very low. I've owned two in the past and both times wished i never bothered. I paid £900 for the first and swapped the second for a minty scared stiff i had. The only reason i'd pay that again is because i know there is a buyer out there that will pay me a ton for one.

Some people like it i get that, i honestly couldn't wait to get it out my house. I'd now only ever see it as a machine for potential profit if the price was right. Never to play for fun.

I know someone with a Harley Davidson that would argue its the greastest pin the world and wont have it any other way, then try to sell you it first chance he gets.....lolol.
 
Any machine has a value in a range. This will be based on condition, desirability and availability.
  1. Not all machines are the same condition.
  2. Not all machines are as desirable or maintain the same desirability
  3. Availability changes like buses
@Neil McRae or anyone else is not the last opinion on value, especially if they are not in the market to buy. As often repeated, the only important agreement on price is between the buyer and the seller.

We serve no one on this forum any benefit by constantly snipping for sales ad or going on about prices.

I wonder how many actual Adams are left, I suspect because of the rarity of cc people treasured them so it's probably closeish to the 900 run. Adams was everywhere and cheap in the early 2000 I suspect a fair few got dumped. Perhaps there's 5,000 left so maybe not as many as one might think.

Might be like collectables at point of purchase tend not to be so valuable as everyone kept them mint in a box. Thinking there worth something. The mass produced star wars toys I think go for high money because people chucked them out.

I have fond memories of Adams it was the first pinball I played in a small bar on holiday in France, I couldn't understand for many years why certain features were not on other Adams I played. Turned out the one in the bar was a gold!

However having played it recently at pinball Republic it's not a game I would necessarily want to own. Its simple to understand has a nice theme so I can see why people still might want it.

As a mass appeal 90's game it is up there, but can understand serious pinball players disliking it.
 
I love TAF.. magnets, revolving bookcase, thing coming out of the box.. thing flipper that shoots it’s self! Cutting edge in 1992!

It’s a classic and has a place in any collection..
that’s my opinion…. anyone wanna buy my TAGF!? 😉

I would estimate that out of the 21,000, probabiy around 10K left.

Pinball was a throw away arcade game back in the day. Operators would just throw them out when the game had made enough and the next biggest game was coming in.

I’m sure

It's amazing how things changed, similar to console games I suppose, at one point worthless you just chucked them, now some are worth big Money, how I wished I had kept all my Japanese Saturn games, I even had the European panza dragon saga. 😂☹️🤭
 
If you compare the amount of people wanting a TAF to those who want a Godzilla (any model) combined.. still less than TAF.

GZ has been out a while now, and I’m sure it will grow, but Pinside is a good indication, serious collectors and pinball community around the world know of Pinside.

What do you mean by serious players? Pinball is a game, what are these serious players so serious about? 😉
Anyone can like it or can dislike it. But when we separate out the types of people who like it and don’t as better or more dedicated than the other is an issue.

Now I'm going to be lynched for this but I actually didn't like Godzilla and can't see what the fuss is about. Doesn't help I absolutely hate the rubber suit show, so that might have influenced my dis liking 🤭😃.

"Lol" the ones obsessed with generating high scores. The people who seem to hate it seem to like particular games and they tend to be on the taking it seriously side. It was a generalisation that really didn't have much merit "lol". 🤭🙄🤣😀

I was talking to an operator in Swanage years ago who told me he threw a TOTAN on a bonfire. Back then they had no way of getting rid of them and TBH before the advent of the internet we as punters would have had difficulty finding one to buy!
