im going out to the pictures on Friday with a mate, doing our regular pizza-pictures-pis_sed thing. We were gonna go see Joker2 as we both loved the first one:

2 Oscars, highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_accolades_received_by_Joker_(2019_film)

Though I’ll watch it eventually, all the reviews say it’s total crap with nothing happening and far too many songs in it. So what else is on that folks can recommend?

Saw this by "accident". Not my normal genre at all - I thought it was sci-fi, but then it goes full 80s horror. I just looked at a few YouTube trailers when we arrived at the cinema and we went for this one.

The film ending was rafically different to the heavily censored trailer - as the trailer was rated for general viewing whereas the film is very much an 18.

Sci fi. Beautifully shot. Amazing soundtrack. Moments of genius. Excellent acting from the three leads. Dan will approve of the younger Demi Moore. First 90 minutes are cult classic, excellent movie.

Final 40 minutes goes turbo 1980s David Cronenburg meets Carrie.

I've watched all the movies mentioned so far. Agree with opinions. Joker was ****. Speak No Evil quite good. The Substance was really ****ed up, I'd recommend the latter Dan. Plenty of nudity too 🙂.

The Substance was a crazy eye opening film. Really good as well. The camera angles and shots for most of the scenes were brilliant, well I thought so, not sure about the missus 🤔😂

I think it would definitely be on your street @cooldan 👍🏻

Was reading about The Substance and reviews have made is sound like it's one of the most difficult to watch films ever; os it really that gory and messed up?

I used to love 80s and 90s horror, but for some reason I really went off of watching gross stuff (unless it's zombies:-) - think it was a horrific scene in the film Irriversable that did it; just looked too real.

The Terrefier films are also meant to be I'd up - avoiding those films too, but do sound fun!

No, it really isn’t that gory and messed up at all. It’s pure Cronenburg and has a core sci-fi theme that is really interesting.

The films I find difficult to watch are things like ‘I Spit on Your Grave’ with prolonged torture/rape stuff that makes me almost vomit. I find that totally depraved and unnecessary but I suppose the censors allow it because it’s supposed to sort of offset or excuse the extreme violence that follows as the girl hunts them down and executes them one by one.

No, I’m with Kev on ‘The Substance’, it was great fun and quite comedic towards the end. My buddy and I both gave it an 8.
