Hi folks

i have a cousin who lives overseas, in this time of lockdown we want to make a video together. idea is to have some fun doing silly things in our respective kitchens.

we want to record video of each person and somehow merge together into a single video

no idea how to do this, so looking for ideas please

ps we both have phones and digital cameras, looking to possibly therefore have 4 video streams coming in

any suggestions gratefully received

many thanks

Alan

So you’re pre-recording each video separately then merging them together?

And when you say merge them together, is that all 4 on screen at once, or edited together like a traditional film sequence? Cut to you, cut to that bloke, cut to the other bloke... the former might be a nightmare for audio, unless you tightly time the scripting - you end up talking over each other and your [audience’s] attention isn’t focussed.

agree a style (shot type, screen orientation, what you’ll do in the video, duration, etc) then put them all together on an edit timeline.

it may sound tedious, but do yourself a quick story board, like a cartoon comic strip of what you want it to look like, as that will help you ansser the questions.

there’s some great free edit tools out there these days (used to and can still cost a fortune):

alternatively, as mentioned above, you can also just do a live video call on Houseparty and get your phone or tablet to record the screen output - effectively filming it as it happens live.
