This is starting out as a technical question but might turn into a tips and tricks.
My IJ has a lovely bodged Trough Opto Transmitter Board so I plan to rebuild it.
The machine was complaining a trough switch wasn't working so I checked it and cleaned the Emitter and receiver. This made that error go away but the camera tested showed another appeared dead and test mode confirmed it was an issue.
A quick check showed that the resistor feeding the IR opto is giving a path in one direction and that has the wrong resistance so I will be replacing it.
They appear to be know as "big blue resistors" and are 270 ohm 2w resistors. I found a cheap supply on Amazon which will be delivered in the next couple of days for me to test.
Now the opto still might be working but I wanted to have some working spares. This thread aims to collect information from people on what has worked for them and can be sourced in the UK.
This link came from the Yahoo group and is in the USA: http://www.digipart.com/part/QED123
The description says: "FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR - QED123 - IR EMITTER; 880NM; T-1 3/4; THROUGH HOLE"
The next suggestion says: "A CY85G (stock code) from Maplins may be ok, LD271 IR emitter". These have Peak wavelength emission of 950±20nm and I don't know if they did work as a suggestion.
Taking the key spec from both items I guess what is needed is an IR Emitter of around 880NM of the size T 1 34 and 1.5v, a quick look on eBay found these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390461031622?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Which I will play with when the arrive to see if they work and clean this thread up as a tips and tricks if I get it to work.
Has anyone has any other handy hints?
